Magoo could have plenty of time to deal with the reinstated suit, once the NCAA penalties come down against 'Cuse. Boy, I hate seeing this kind of thing involving our friends at Lower Canada Community College. As a Canadian, I feel that Canada has a defamation lawsuit against this board for being constantly linked to Syracuse. For perspective, the board should also know that the poster - NJHoya78 - bears a disturbing facial resemblence to his whininess. This has merit. I don't travel much but if my experience of Banff and Montreal are any indication, Canada should be in line for a large settlement. Not one physical assault witnessed on either trip.

The reaction in Syracuse is exactly what one would expect from a fan base that has been so desensitized to miscreant behavior over the Magoo years.
They have routinely risen up to defend the indefensible, be it Red Bruin, Andre Hawkins, Billy Edelin, Devendorf, Melo, you name it.
It is a clannish, hillbilly mentality that defies logic and reason. People talk about the bunker mentality at GU during the Thompson years, but the entire Syracuse community is down in the bunker with Magoo and his miscreants.
As long as the cretins are fed basketball during the long cold winter in southern Canada, they are willing to overlook just about everything.

As a fellow Canadian I believe HoyaChris would join me in saying being lumped in with the 8 miles in upper NY is a complete kick in the balls.

Enj, that's good to hear. Laughing about SU is part of our mutual heritage. Shots being fired on Parliament Hill, or at any other location, are no laughing matter.

It's interesting how that article doesn't mention any domestic violence issues. I know I'm more cynical than I should be but, even only reading a few available articles, I feel like this will be much ado about nothing in the end. With Boeheim nearing retirement and the Cuse trying to compete with the real faces of the ACC, they are vulnerable. I find it very difficult to believe that much of any penalty will be enforced. ESPN wants and needs the Cuse to be in the discussion with Duke and UNC. There are too many story angles to be had if that happens. Just as I expect UNC to suffer very little (at least on the BB side of things) from the crap storm that they've created for themselves. But, hey, we all know Boeheim and Roy didn't know anything shady was going on.

I expect the punishment will be light given the long-standing culture of criminality under Magoo.
That said, it is always gratifying when something you just knew was happening gets documented and aired publicly.
I now look forward to hearing the Bristol branch of the Newhouse Alumni Club try to spin this into something akin to a minor technical violation. The intellectual gymnastics necessary for that would get a 10 even from the Russian judges...

I expect the punishment will be light given the long-standing culture of criminality under Magoo. That said, it is always gratifying when something you just knew was happening gets documented and aired publicly. It's all about timing. Jim Boeheim could have walked away as a Big East hero in 2013 and handed off the Fab Melo mess to Mike Hopkins. But like Joe Paterno and so many coaches that can't envision a life outside coaching, they hang on to the job and eventually get pulled down by it. Boeheim will eventually be proven right on another account, though. The ACC is not a safe harbor for the Orangemen--the Greensboro gang will always see Syr, Pitt and BC (anyone remember them?) as second class members, and the conference realignment storms aren't over, just further on the horizon. The moment the Pac-12 decide/are told to go to 14, Texas and Oklahoma go on the clock. At that point, the Big 12 and Fox look to the football-centric ACC schools that have never been happy with the Tobacco Road crowd: Florida State, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Miami. The hunters become the hunted. And the Big Ten isn't done either.

Is it just coincidence that the NCAA investigation has been recharged and expanded shortly after a Hoya took over as Chancellor? Methinks not.

If what you are suggesting is true, this will be even better than when HoyaTalk members bought the front row tickets at the last Dome game. This will rival the Trojan Horse...

We all knew where Kent Syverud's loyalties would lie! Although I am troubled by the fact that the NCAA hearing will occur over Halloween (too much orange associated with that holiday).

Boeheim's autobiography "Bleeding Orange" is being released. Title may be quite ironic very soon.

With regard to the slander/defamation lawsuit - if Bad Bernie is forced to give a deposition, and if it becomes clear they have the goods on him - any chance he rats out Boeheim, since Magoo cut him loose and won't even talk to him now even though they still live across the street from each other? Yeah, I know, I am asking for Christmas, New Year's Eve and my birthday to all come at the same time - but wouldn't it be fun?!

I think you left out Mardi Gras.
I doubt that Bernie Fine will "rat out" Jim Boeheim; I would have expected Fine to open his mouth up long ago, once it had been established that he was clear vis-a-vis the statute of limitations. I can't imagine that they'll get to depositions here, though. I expect Syracuse to get this case settled fast, subject to confidentiality provisions, so that none of this sees the light of day. As a private institution, SU can settle this without any further disclosures. They are being embarrassed enough with the NCAA investigations of the basketball and football programs; they will try to minimize the fallout as much as possible.
