With transfer rules, I guess that means he's done playing high school ball?

It is a red flag for somebody. I hope that this issue does not affect his eligibility, regardless of where he goes (unless he chooses Duke; if that is the case, I wish him eternal NCAA purgatory ).

Says he will decide between KSA and Murray State, hhmmmmm I guess on to the next one.
Instead, the 5-foot-10 guard plans to train in Gulfport before he commits to a school at the end of January.
Right now, Hardnett says he hears from Georgetown, Kansas State, LSU and Murray State, but will likely decide between the Wildcats and Racers.

Is it? He took his eligibility seriously and put that as a priority over playing on a good high school team. He got what he wanted out of it - he was too-short-to-play-the-2 guard, he played the 1 at a high HS level he wouldn't have been at, got exposure, and improved his ranking greatly. He's now on the radar of major D1 programs. This board had no thread on him before he transferred. This kid gets a pass for me on going to the diploma mill because (a) he transferred out and (b) he needed the exposure. He now can't play any more HS basketball but can get himself eligible. You can make the argument that he should have never gone in the first place, but would he have had those schools on him and the options he has now had he not gone there?

I am in no way bashing the kid; rather, I am just pointing out that much more subtle issues and seemingly stable situations have led to NCAA issues.

It sounds like Hardnett is making a smart and ethical choice. I have no doubt the NCAA will find him ineligible, effectively punishing him for wanting to do his schoolwork.

Why doesn't he just commit to us, graduate early and start practicing with the team?

If eligibility is the angle you're saying is a red flag that's perfectly reasonable. My immediate thought was that it must be a disciplinary issue or a sign of instability, but after reading the article that he's transferring back to his old HS, can't play ball, and this is all about getting enough courses to be eligible, I don't think there's a character red flag for this situation. Those are the right things to do. The Arlington Coach complaining that he abandoned his team - while the school isn't even providing real classes - seems like a total leech to me.

I get that he isn't the ideal size but we need a guard. Unless we're 100% sure we're getting a Jamal Murray re-class, Hardnett should be a top target. The transferring is of no issue with me.

Okay, but the kid decides where he wants to go to school. If he has eyes on other schools there's only so much you can do....

I trust the staff on this one. As in the staff is still confident - or if we are not still in the mix there is a good reason we are not?

He just tweeted out Murray State, K-State and us ("no specific order", in his words). EDIT: he is getting some love from Murray State on his twitter, FWIW.

He’s not coming here…. Prob Murray St.. Will be interesting to see how it plays out...I'm not sure if he ever visited, either. B&G gave a pretty positive take a couple weeks ago indicating he thought this kid would be a Hoya. But if he hasn't visited, and his only two other options are a pretty low mid-major and Kansas State (with dufus Bruce Weber being one of the worst recruiters on the planet), I can't imagine we wouldn't get this kid if we really wanted him. Very strange final list.
