CBSSport's @jonrothstein was up on the Hilltop early this evening I caught his tweets coming home from work today... Hoya Saxa! Just 10 more days until the Hoyas season begins! Please start reading from the bottom on up...thanks...
Jon Rothstein
For the Big East to be nationally relevant next season, Georgetown has to be an NCAA team. Tough for the conference to thrive otherwise.
Jon Rothstein
L.J. Peak is going to take pressure off D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera. 6-5 freshman should be an immediate offensive factor. Really gets to rim.
Jon Rothstein
The biggest thing that stands out from watching Georgetown? Josh Smith's skill level. 300 plus pounds but passes and dribbles like a guard.
@jonrothstein
Isaac Copeland is cut from the from the same cloth as the combo forwards that preceded him at Georgetown. 6-9. High IQ. Can pass and shoot.
JonRothstein
JT3 stressing two major points of emphasis for Georgetown 1. Transition defense 2. Guarding the 3-point shot #gottodefendbetter
@jonrothstein
A big X-Factor for Georgetown? Who provides a lift in reserve. Aaron Bowen, Reggie Cameron, Mikael Hopkins, Paul White all in play.
JonRothstein
Early prediction on Georgetown's starting five --- D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera, Jabril Trawick, L.J. Peak, Isaac Copeland, Josh Smith....
@jonrothstein
Georgetown sophomore Reggie Cameron told @cbssports he is down to 218 pounds. Was 240 as a freshman. Long range sniper. 6-7.
Jon Rothstein
JT3 told @cbssports this freshmen class has a chance to be as good of a first-year group as he's ever assembled at Georgetown. Talented.

I hope JT3 concentrates on transition Offense also, this team has a lot of potential in that area..

Though, I'd tend to think that this group (any any group of freshmen really) would need more work on transition D. Early on, guys like Peak and Copeland probably are starting at a higher level in terms of transition offense than on the defensive side.

I disagree, the biggest thing to transition defense is hustling.. Get back and protect the paint 1st, no easy layups, Hustling should be a mindset.. Running transition offense on the other hand requires much more specific practice.. For some programs it's like their second offense. Tom Izzo spends a lot of time on transition offense, so much so each kid has a specific lane to run and no matter where they are on the court when the ball is pushed they have to hustle to that lane..

Fair point. Hustling back on D should be a mindset. It's often isn't. But there are assignments on D as well but your point is well taken. The transition game will need a lot of work on both ends depending on what sort of run Joshua has in him.

I really hope more of Reggie's strengths show this year. Having him knock down open shots like he did in the first half of last year would be huge.

To your point as well Etomic, I hope that LJ gets after it on the defensive and offensive side. I can see him pinning shots on D like Pat Jr. and pushing the tempo and finishing on O. Then again, YouTube is my only basis for any of that.

I only ask because I didn't really see any. I am happy to have read that he dropped some (hopefully bad) weight which will hopefully translate to some lift and quickness. Even if he is only a knockdown shooter, he would fill a huge need. There were flashes of a midrange at times last year too but, seemingly, only after he lost confidence in the open 3. Both skills could help any team.

Be still MCI's heart.. haha You know it! That's my lineup, baby, although if necessary I would settle for Hopkins instead of Copeland. Cope can come in five minutes into the game when Hopkins has picked up his second or third foul. Key is to have LJ Peak in the starting lineup (especially since the word is that his handle is legit). Thank you. For once I'd like III to talk about how the offense stinks way too often. You know something is wrong when you are wondering 3/4 through the first half if the team can reach 25 points before halftime.

I think our offense is going to be a thing of beauty this year (maybe not right away with all the new faces, but relatively early in the season, yes). The thing is, at least from what I've seen (not a lot, to be honest, but videos and game tapes, etc), we have a decent amount of guys who can disrupt and get out on the run, and also the height (and bulk, with Smith at least), to also have a very effective half-court offense. Not sure yet about the half-court defense, but I have the feeling that we will be happy with how the offense is running with this group.

hope that starting 5 prediction is correct... but knowing JT3, I think the line-up will look more like this: DSR, Trawick, Bowen, Hopkins, Smith
I will be disappointed then :X

JT3 is not as predictable as some would suggest. I would love to see LJP in the starting line up. He and Jabril would be a load for any team to guard.

I just don’t get the fascination with starting, when minutes is most important. Idk...

If he's dedicated to defense and is a poor man's Hollis, I'll take it.

Cameron is a good player who should (and, I believe, will) be part of the rotation. I certainly agree that improved condition (something III cited as an issue for him before last season) will help with many aspects of his game. And there are very few teams that could and would not find some minutes for a 6'7"-6'8" guy who can knock it down from deep. If he is stroking the three and he improved at all on the other facets of the game, he should have an important impact on the team.

The deep ball without an inside threat isn't that helpful. Now if Josh can bang inside and teams are forced to double, reggie becomes a real problem if he is hitting shots. Then on D, you gotta go zone to hide the deficiencies that combo creates.

We have three guys that can get to the rim - Jabril, LJ and Aaron. DSR can shoot long range and mid range. Josh can score easily on the block. If Isaac can score and facilitate as advertised, I am not worried about the offense from that starting five. LJ + Issac + Josh should be > Markel + Nate + Mikael. I worry more on defense where Josh is a liability while LJ and Isaac are question marks. Whether JTIII employs a Buzz Williams-like offense/defense strategy ala Davante Gardner for Josh Smith will be interesting to see. It could be an effective to let Mikael and Bradley (hopefully improved from Kenner reports) shoulder the burden down low on D. On offense I'd like 'em to run as much as possible and maybe put a couple of Bill Self-inspired alley-oop plays in the book for LJ, Jabril and Aaron. I can remember AI looking for the oop it off of in-bounds passes back in the day under JT Jr. Maybe JTIII will let them play a bit more spirited attack at times even if the efficiency doesn't seem as high for such acrobatic plays.
