Is that an actual opening or just a new position to be filled by a 5 star's handler?

Now click this link to the site's writeup of JJ Redick years ago. www.draftexpress.com/profile/J.J.-Redick-16/Scroll towards the bottom to see the site's breakdown of Redick's strengths and weaknesses and you will find that much of it is similar to what the site is saying about DSR. And factor in that much of that writeup was written during Redick's final season at Duke or just after when Redick was at his peak (something we probably haven't seen yet for DSR). Even the year going into his senior season most of the gurus were not thinking of Redick as a first round pick but in the end he kept putting up numbers that could not be denied. Redick's weaknesses never disappeared but he had the gift/ability to put the ball in the basket and not only became a first round pick but became a lottery pick. Wasn't he starting for the Clippers last season? Not claiming that DSR is the scorer that Redick was and I don't see DSR becoming some lottery pick. But the point is, as Big John used to say on his radio show, if you have at least one valued skill that you can do well the NBA will find a place for you. DSR could be a second round selection or not get drafted and still make a team if he continues to be able to make shots. Not putting DSR in the same league as Vinnie "Microwave" Johnson but Gus Johnson, when calling one of the Hoyas' games last season, wasn't too far off when he made that comparison. But I'll take it even another step....go ahead to YouTube and look at the top video links for Joe Dumars. There are similarities that DSR share with both men in terms of size, shooting ability/technique, lack of athletic explosion and hops, broad shoulders, etc. Yes, the game has changed and guys like Dumars and Vinnie Johnson are far less common in the NBA now than they were 20 to 25 years ago. But still if you stumbled across a Joe Dumars-type would you reject him? Couldn't a guy like that come off the bench for his career at least? Once more I must stress that I'm not saying DSR is at these guys's level, especially Hall of Famer Joe Dumars. But at the same time no one initially expected much from Dumars either which is why he got a free ride to McNesse State rather than LSU. And that's also probably why Dumars stayed at McNeese State for four seasons too. That being said DSR isn't even the best NBA prospect on this Hoya team.

Josh hart at 7 stings a bit. Kid wanted to be a Hoya. It would sting a whole lot more for me if the Hoyas didn't have LJ Peak whom I'm guessing years from now will make this list look foolish (same may go for Coepland). Getting a ridiculously underrated player like Peak helps make up for a lot of regrets. I'm not sure if Peak ever gets recruited by Gtown or comes to Gtown if Hart (who may be better than the #7 prospect) was already on the team a year ahead. Maybe I'll end up wrong on this front but as of right now I'll take that tradeoff.

Just an ok article, mainly because the opening sentences just feel like a writer trying to create controversy where it doesn't exist: "Many say this is a do-or-die year for John Thompson III. That may be accurate." Really, "many" say that? I haven't heard any chatter about JT3 being on the hot seat because of the team's performance (other than on here from some of the more volatile members after tough losses). The rest of the article is pretty complimentary and features paragraphs on DSR, Smith, Jabril, Cameron, Copeland and Peak. Between not knowing DSR's first name, calling someone Bullock and apparently thinking quintessential means "more essential," that was hard to read.

Between not knowing DSR's first name, calling someone Bullock and apparently thinking quintessential means "more essential," that was hard to read. Amen. And let's not stop there. III has actually been cautiously optimistic regarding Josh who apparently is way down from his listed 350 pounds of last season. But this writer makes it seem as if it was just the opposite. And I didn't know that Jeff Green was considered III's most talented player. Based on his sophomore numbers I would have figured a case would be made for Monroe. But that's subjective I guess. What isn't suggestive is that you don't spell Jeff's last name as "Greene".

2. Georgetown Key losses: Markel Starks, Nate Lubick Key returners: D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera, Jabril Trawick, Joshua Smith, Mikael Hopkins Key additions: Isaac Copeland, Paul White, L.J. Peak, Tre Campbell, Trey Mourning Photo: ESPN After struggling last year, Georgetown should be heading back to the NCAA Tournament in 2015. The Hoyas lost starting point guard Markel Starks and glue guy Nate Lubick, but overall they will be a much stronger club heading into the new season. The Hoyas have arguably the best scorer in the Big East in junior guard D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera. Smith-Rivera averaged 17.6 points per game last year, shooting 44.5% from the field and 39.3% from beyond the arc. Smith-Rivera is joined by senior Jabril Trawick (9.1 ppg, 51.9 FG%) to form another one of the best backcourts in this conference. Trawick made great improvements from his sophomore to junior seasons, and with some more polishing could become a very good complement to Smith-Rivera. For Georgetown to reach its potential this season, Smith-Rivera and Trawick need to improve as distributors. Starks and Lubick were responsible for 44.1% of the Hoyas’ assists last year. The Hoyas have good size returning on their front line, and they add a trio of freshman forwards to create some depth. Joshua Smith and Mikael Hopkins are both back for their senior seasons. Smith posted 11.5 points per contest through 13 games last season before being ruled academically ineligible for the rest of the year. He has defensive limitations but is very skilled offensively. Hopkins is the opposite: a limited offensive player but a strong defensive presence down low. Freshmen Isaac Copeland, Paul White and L.J. Peak have the talent to earn playing time immediately as those guys’ backups. thecatchandshoot.com/big-east-preview-2014-15-preseason/
