I lived in an apartment at Georgetown Park for 2 years while in school at the time when the Bayou was still around. That was a place that should have never closed. It really did get some great acts and had such a good rep in the years before I was in school. It was like a later-years, Georgetown version of CBGB in a way. I would love to see that documentary to find out what changed.
If any current students read this, don't live that far from campus. Nice place but one misses too much.

Black Cat is on 14th Street, not in Adams Morgan.
Agree that all of the late night action has moved away from M Street -- first to Adams Morgan, then to 14th Street / U Street, and now to H Street. I'm sure that the emergence of Clarendon also pulled traffic away from M Street. Really, why truck over to Georgetown when you could just stay on a Metro line or walk from where you (most likely) live?
It is somewhat amazing how much Georgetown has changed in just the 15 years since I graduated. The shopping is completely different -- no more horrible mall and much fewer quirky stores. Virtually all of the bars and pubs are gone; a few of the restaurants survive but the place is much more focused on mall-style retail and dining that supports those shoppers, rather than an entertainment destination in itself. I guess Washington Harbor is still a destination for some, but it is not the same.
The Tombs lives on, sustained by Georgetown students. That, and the sketchy men's clothing stores.

What replaced the mall? I do remeber Gtown parkmall had an astonishingly high ratio of totally empty/useless retailers. Seemed such a waste of space.
Glad to hear the obnoxiously-colored 9-button suits can still be purchased in town. Is Rhinos still there?

Glad to hear the obnoxiously-colored 9-button suits can still be purchased in town. Is Rhinos still there? The interior space is empty for now. The few stores that had street access, like J Crew, have expended some and remain open. I read earlier this year that there may be plans to turn some of the space into a hotel and some into "micro-apartments" (less than 500 sq ft., meant for single people with no car who want to live in the city and dont need much space). I support that project, as I am usually a fan of higher density housing. They will be putting in micro units at the womens club building in dupont on 19th street. Also i believe that they "other" chadwicks in Friendship Heights changed its name to "Chads" earlier this year. I think the ownership changed a few years before. So this seems like all part of the same process of winding down the business. Rhinos is still there, still supporting the red sox and Ohio State and still as full of drunks as ever.
