From what I know, Othella is one of the most committed staff members associated with the team. He's the first coach at the gym everyday and the last one out...and yes, he's played a big role in Josh's development, both on and off the court.

Not sure if there has been a lot of attention on what adding Othella to the staff a couple years ago has meant. I assume there's a lot of his influence going on here as well ...guy with 10+ year solid NBA career without (seemingly) an ego can command a lot of respect. Good point. I see O talking quietly to the bugs on the bench often, definitely a positive influence. Seems like we need an exterminator and Othella needs a shrink.

Another great advertisement for our program and the young men who who play at GU. Not that it matters at all in the grand scheme of things, but how nice is it to see that Josh has earned the respect of the board at this point in his career, especially since some crucified him, indeed, did not want him, when he endured troubles last year?

Even the biggest critics among us have to respect how he's assumed responsibility for his mistakes and has bounced back both academically and athletically. Regardless of all of the negative press from his time at UCLA and his academic issues last year, he's a really easy guy to pull for. Interviews like that only confirm that fact. Kudos to big O as well. It's easy to see how involved he is. He's constantly talking to the big guys especially. If there's a guy that knows what it takes to succeed without being the most gifted guy on the floor, it's Othella. His BB IQ and fundamentals were always a huge plus. The way he was able to excel is teachable and, it seems, he's doing that. I love seeing him on the bench. It reminds me of when I used to see him in the caf.

I have been a critic and that dates back to his effort and commitment during his time at UCLA. I am pleasantly surprised at his effort this year and his commitment. Still not convinced that his potential impact can ever be realized on this team without some consistent outside shooting, but that is not his fault.

Only DSR (41 minutes) and Copeland (38) played more minutes today against Marquette than did Smith (31). Some huge foul shots down the stretch and in overtime, and big rebounds in OT. Well done, Josh.

Josh was a stone cold stud today. Gotta love how hard he keeps working.

Every time the ball came off the rim, you could see the big fella thinking "That's mine."
He's come a long way.

Yeah, I recall one poster saying that he cringes every time he sees Josh entering the game. Uhhm? Quite a few didn't want him to return when some felt his eligibility status this summer was still up in the air (when in fact it wasn't). Come to think of some didn't even want Bowen to come back either because they wanted all the minutes newbies. Crazy. As if having greater depth provided by a fifth year senior who easily had his best season the year before was something to brush off.

The two assists he got today really sells him short. He had a couple great dishes that were bobbled or resulted in foul shots. His passing out of the post can be devastating, and he commands a double team EVERY time he touches the ball. Watching large men bounce off Josh as he goes to the rim is entertaining every single time.
He'll never be a defensive stopper, but his rebounding is night and day from earlier this year. Love what he's doing this year and he could be playing his way back into the NBA draft.

Josh deserves credit for how he has been able to improve as the season has gone along. I thought we were getting his best back in November, now I see that he is truly committed to leading this team as far as he can. His game today was so satisfying to watch as a fan, I cannot imagine what his coaches and how Josh must have felt knowing he put forth his best effort to date and seeing the difference it made for his team. Great to see him using those hands for grabbing rebounds and not just corralling tough passes into the post.

Is it just me and my imagination, or has Josh dropped about 25 pounds since the season got underway. Big Man is looking pretty slim, going 31 minutes today.

Huge minutes today from Joshua. Not just in quantity but in performance. And, obviously, we needed every bit of it to beat Quette. I, unfortunately, had to miss seeing some of the second half because of work stuff but was listening on a SiriusXM feed featuring Quette's broadcasters. They were insanely biased and let's just say less than complimentary about Joshua's ability to stay on the floor for any extended time. I would have loved to have caught their post-game if they had one but, fortunately, I was home watching OT by that point. We get it. Josh isn't svelte and still has work to do on his conditioning. That said, even when he did get winded today, he avoided picking up fouls because he was winded. That's a big improvement for him and for this team. All of the guys get tired. Cutting out the fouls that result from needing a blow is a skill that this team needs. Joshua did that today and was able to not only play regulation but OT. Tre gets that open look in OT because Josh had one Quette guy on each hip trying to deny him the ball because there was no answer for him if he got it because their big man was out of the game. Helluva performance by the big man. And I hope Big Roy hooks him up with the guys that he's had working him out after Josh graduates. Roy didn't take long after school to look like a different person and it helped him greatly.
