Did they say any of the games would be on FS1? I sort of doubt they will. I suppose they could work it out where our homes games are FS1 and theirs are ESPN, but I doubt its that straightforward. The press release didn't say, but I think it's a very safe assumption that our home games will be on FS1. They are our business partners, and they need/want content like this. I assume it'll be just like the Big East-Big Ten games. Big East home games on FS1 and Syracuse home games on their TV partner (assume ESPN, but possibly CBS). Is that what they are doing with the BE-B1G games? If so, that's good to hear.

Not a sellout? Really? Between our season ticket base and the Syracuse DC fan base, it should easily sell out both years we host it (no matter when it is held). The question of course is whether we can hold off the Syracuse fans and keep the place grey. Saturdays are one thing, but when was the last mid-week game that Georgetown sold out? The DC fan base doesn't come out in numbers for a 7:00 game as they do elsewhere.

Meh. Who cares. The Syracuse "rivalry" is overrated.

Nice! Assuming we continue our recruiting prowess. 2015 could be a pretty darn good Hoya team. Excited for this series to resume again
I am a bit miffed though they have to put aside Kansas though...why is it an either or proposition? Home to Cuse away to Kansas would have been a pretty serious OOC schedule already

Yeah, that was specifically mentioned at the bottom of the Gavitt Games press release. www.bigeast.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/050514aaa.html

Truth be told, this is the best home game we could possibly schedule. Maybe Kentucky or Duke? That's, of course, due to the fact that a lot of Syracuse fans will be around, but it is what it is.

Okay, we got Syracuse. We are playing Kansas. We are going to have to be careful how many of these grueling match ups we want to get involved in. I like the game with Syracuse, and it probably won't even matter if the Big East is not the beast it has been in years past. However, if it is, then we are going to have to really load up on talent. Syracuse always seems to have a deep bench. We will need to do the same.

More info here: espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/11060886/georgetown-hoyas-syracuse-orange-rivalry-resume-2015"At no point did we not think this was going to happen," Thompson III told ESPN on Tuesday. "The length of the deal may just be a formality. I don't ever see this not happening. This is something that is important to our program and to college basketball."
Thompson III said there were discussions to have the series be home-and-home and then a game at Madison Square Garden and then return to a home-and-home format. He said in time that may occur, but for now it will be a home-and-home format.
Thompson added that Syracuse was the only must-get on the schedule for the Hoyas among the former Big East members.
"We haven't ruled anyone out," said Thompson III. "But that was the natural one, that was the only one we had to do."
Thompson said the Hoyas will take a year off from a four-year series against Kansas that started last season in Lawrence to accommodate the Syracuse series in 2015-16. The series will resume against Kansas in 2016-17. Georgetown will host Kansas in 2014-15 before the one-year hiatus.
Pumped that we're playing 'Cuse. But I don't see anything in either of those articles indicating that we may have a conference challenge with the Pac 12. Just that it's possible that we'll continue to play Kansas. Hope you're right though...

The recently announced Gavitt Tipoff series with the Big Ten is a great start, and sources said Fox was working to broker a similar partnership between the Pac 12 and Big East.

Meh. Who cares. The Syracuse "rivalry" is overrated. Other than being our biggest rivalry for 30 years, and the rivalry that helped create the national reputation of the Big East - I would have to agree with you. Although I will grant you it has not been the same since they became the dominant program over most of the last 15+ years.

This really is the best home game we could hope for. I realize there are an isolated few on here and other sites that disagree, but I think the vast majority differ. The fact is that the "average" Georgetown college basketball fan will get excited about a game against Syracuse in ways that simply will not happen with any other program. To sell out, we need the average fan to attend (and probably some of the opponent's fans, too).
Sure, Maryland, Duke, and a few others might get a lot of interest, but the fan base reaction to a Syracuse game is like no other matchup. Could that fade with time? Definitely, but for now, that's simply not the case. I looked on a Syracuse site, and they seem pretty excited about it too, and they don't even need the game from a scheduling perspective, as we do.
If we want to be an NCAA contender and potentially get higher seeding with our 2014 and 2015 recruiting classes, we need to play a tough schedule. There's no reason we cannot beat Syracuse, we've done it before with lesser talent than we are likely to have in 2015.
As far as scheduling, I do think it would be silly not to have our home game on a weekend. This will be the biggest draw of the season, and you want to make it a big draw (one could say the same about this year's Kansas game, but I digress).

Well exactly...the fact that the Kansas game is a weekday game is just crazy to me. Over the holiday break no less There really arent too many windows for playing that game. Aside from the usual NHL and NBA priorities, it's holiday time, it's finals time, and after that you are looking at what, 2 or 3 weekends from Tgiving to the end of the year. To me, that date is the best you could do. It's early enough so that the students and even alums arent out of town. It's also sad that we have to even talk about playing a game on a weekday as some horrible thing. People should get their asses to a mid-week Kansas-Gtown game.

I hear you. No question it's frustrating, but in this particular case, I doubt we could even get a weekend, to be honest.

Although I will grant you it has not been the same since they became the dominant program over most of the last 15+ years. Meh 7-10 record against Cuse since JT3 took over we hold our own just fine. In that 10 year period Syracuse has 1 extra elite 8 and sweet 16 and 1 extra BET in that period we have 1 extra regular season championship than they do. They are not dominant over us. And to those questioning if games will be on FS1 They most likely will be. FS1 owns the rights to all our home games. All the games @ Georgetown will be on FS1 and all the @ Cuse games will be on ESPN. The only exception being if either FS1 or ESPN sells the rights CBS.
