Georgetown University and Syracuse University announced today in a joint release that the schools will renew their long-time rivalry in men's basketball beginning in the 2015-16 season with a four-year home-and-home series.
One of the preeminent rivalries in all of college basketball, Georgetown will host the Orange at Verizon Center during the 2015-16 season and the Hoyas will visit the Carrier Dome in 2016-17.www.guhoyas.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/061014aaa.htmlAs it should be.

Four years of Cuse, Three more years of Kansas, the Big Ten Gavitt challenge...many reasons for folks to stop complaining about OOC schedule and sign up for your season tickets. Good work by the AD and this continues to keep the profile high. Now we need to step up on the court this year and hope that the rest of the conferences recruiting success translates to the court.

We're missing the main headline here - Syracuse scheduled an OOC road game outside of New York State.

Good to see Georgetown didn't fall for that "third year at MSG" trap that Villanova fell into.
Is it enough to buy a season ticket? Probably not, at least not in the lower bowl. No guarantee the Gavitt Tipoff Games give Georgetown the exact games fans want (see those memorable SEC challenge games against Alabama and Tennessee). And, for better or worse, StubHub is making season tickets for fans outside the Beltway increasingly obsolete.
If this game is stuck in November or following exams, it'll sell but probably not a sellout. A late January or early February game would spike sales closer to 20K, but the 18 game schedules of each conference make open dates few and far between.

Very glad it is home and home as well. As for the date of the game, FS1 is going to want it in the best time slot possible. I'd be very surprised if they bury it during football season. I think they would want it on something like the day before the Super Bowl like the Michigan State game last year.

Great news. Is there any guarantee these games will be on FS1? I'd almost prefer an ESPN game in the short term since it would get more exposure. Or a CBS network game.

Between our season ticket base and the Syracuse DC fan base, it should easily sell out both years we host it (no matter when it is held). The question of course is whether we can hold off the Syracuse fans and keep the place grey.

I suppose they could work it out where our homes games are FS1 and theirs are ESPN, but I doubt its that straightforward.

Out here on the West Coast, I have heard rumors of a PAC 12--BIG 12 challenge series but nothing about the Big East. It would be a very good development, however.

The press release didn't say, but I think it's a very safe assumption that our home games will be on FS1. They are our business partners, and they need/want content like this. I assume it'll be just like the Big East-Big Ten games. Big East home games on FS1 and Syracuse home games on their TV partner (assume ESPN, but possibly CBS).

More info here: espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/11060886/georgetown-hoyas-syracuse-orange-rivalry-resume-2015"At no point did we not think this was going to happen," Thompson III told ESPN on Tuesday. "The length of the deal may just be a formality. I don't ever see this not happening. This is something that is important to our program and to college basketball."
Thompson III said there were discussions to have the series be home-and-home and then a game at Madison Square Garden and then return to a home-and-home format. He said in time that may occur, but for now it will be a home-and-home format.
Thompson added that Syracuse was the only must-get on the schedule for the Hoyas among the former Big East members.
"We haven't ruled anyone out," said Thompson III. "But that was the natural one, that was the only one we had to do."
Thompson said the Hoyas will take a year off from a four-year series against Kansas that started last season in Lawrence to accommodate the Syracuse series in 2015-16. The series will resume against Kansas in 2016-17. Georgetown will host Kansas in 2014-15 before the one-year hiatus.

I hope the DC games are on the weekend since I don't live in the area. I'll probably find a way to attend regardless but the last Cuse game in DC (3/9/13) was like a mini-reunion for alums. Or maybe that was just my experience. Time to bring out that "Our Hatred Is Eternal" sign again. Beat Cuse!
