Bradley should know better than to try to dribble in the midfield in the last minute, have to give it up and make them chase. And the "great" defensive replacement who could control the middle of the box jogs back and lets a man get behind him. Absolutely no excuse. But at least we get a point and still have a great chance to move on.

No excuse on that last one, great cross by Ronaldo but there is no way that man should even be open to receive it in the box. Great job by the team for staying composed when going down early and coming back to nearly win. I hope they come out with a vengeance against Germany on Thursday, we still have pretty good odds to advance. Win/Draw we are in. Lose and we have to hope that Ghana doesn't win by 2 or Portugal by 5 (assuming we get shut out).

So essentially we really don't want Ghana to win and we're mostly good right? Even if we lose?

Man, I guess I'll take the point from the draw and move on, but the US had it. Great game. Bradley played better than versus Ghana, but he could have been the hero if he puts that goal away and doesn't turnover the ball on the last play.
We'll see what Thursday brings. I feel like we can draw 1-1 versus Germany.

Ghana has a lot more to play for than Portugal. Portugal has to essentially play wrecklessly trying to score lots of goals, opens up counterattack opportunities for a Ghana team that is just a better team anyway on the results of this Cup anyway.
Winner of the group gets probably Algeria. Loser gets Belgium.

Yeah, the problem here is that Ghana > Portugal and Germany > US. Lots of chances for us to advance, but that was pretty crushing.

Yeah, we have a ton of favorable boxes on that cool chart, but those Ghana favorable boxes in bottom right seem much more likely than the boxes on the left side of the chart.
Its like we bought way more Super Bowl boxes than Ghana, but they are sitting on a 0 and a 7.

Its like we bought way more Super Bowl boxes than Ghana, but they are sitting on a 0 and a 7. Except its pretty unlikely that Ghana scores more then 2 goals against Portugal or even shuts them out. All we need to do is take care of business against Germany, if we lose don't get shut out or lose by more then one goal. Forgot what website it was on, but we are at a 79% chance to advance. Obviously not the 100% we were looking at during the 94' of last night's game but those are odds I like. Portugal is a very strong side and they won't roll over for Ghana and will have a few of their missing starters back. Also, since the only way that Germany isn't advancing is if both us and Ghana win by 3 goals, I expect to see some of their younger players on the field to get them experience. Both coaches (Klinsmann and Low) are smart tacticians and won't want to over extend their teams on attack risking a goal on a counter. I expect the game to be played mostly in the midfield with slower buildups.

I'm not sure why you are so sure Ghana can't score more than two goals against a team that is averaging giving up three a game. Either way, thought, Ghana doesn't need to score more than two goals -- there are the highly possible scenarios of Ghana winning by two and the US losing by one or Ghana winning by one and the US losing by two, both of which end in the US going home. This may not be the majority of most likely outcomes, but they certainly feel like the single most likely scenarios (except Ghana by 1 and Germany by 1). 538 has a 75.5% chance of advancing, and I suppose he's as qualified as anyone. The betting markets think decidedly less, though, and even though I do wonder if the markets suck here b/c of US historical ineptitude/disdain/lack of appreciation for home time zone, etc., it's worth noting that we have the harder match than Ghana.

I'm not sure that they won't score more then 2 but I think Portugal with 2 starting defenders and starting goalie back will be better on defense then they were against us. Also I don't think that Ghana is quite the powerhouse on offense that Germany is. Obviously there are a ton of scenarios that involve the US team going home and I wouldn't be surprised if they happen but I hope that the team comes out with a chip on their shoulder and actually focuses the whole 90'+. In addition that Germany is in as long as we don't beat them by 3 goals, I think that it will be a close game. That being said, obviously anything can happen and that's why the World Cup is so compelling. As far as % to advance, the numbers are all over the place, here are a few examples (including the 538 one you mentioned): worldsoccertalk.com/2014/06/22/usa-increase-odds-to-86-of-advancing-in-world-cup-after-draw-against-portugal/www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-06-23/u-s-is-given-77-chance-to-advance-at-world-cup-correct-.htmlfivethirtyeight.com/interactives/world-cup/
