All signs point to Michigan, but there are a number of interesting factors, some of which I found from the Michigan board. - Michigan currently has 13 players under scholarship for next year. They could only open one by transferring Austin Hatch to a medical redshirt or losing Caris LeVert to the NBA. - Michigan wasn't really involved and never offered before Williams committed to VCU. Apparently Beilein is fairly strict about not offering kids until they visit the campus and scrimmage with the players, which hasn't happened yet, and it would seem that it needs to happen before Williams would be offered. - Michigan has a deep and young backcourt. They will return Spike Albrecht, Derrick Walton, Aubrey Dawkins, LeVert, Zak Irvin, and Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rakhman unless something changes. - Williams mentioned that VCU's close proximity to his hometown was a primary reason for his commitment, because he wants his family to be able to watch him play. That said, Beilein is a great coach and a great developer of guards, so it would certainly make sense for him to go there. Still, this seems like a very strange situation. What are these signs though 18?

Does getting a medical redshirt exempt a player from counting as a scholarship athlete? I'm more used to players requesting a medical redshirt after getting injured in-season, as opposed to requesting a medical redshirt in advance of a season (anticipating that you won't be healthy enough to play).

Austin Hatch is not eligible for a medical redshirt. He played in the March 7 Rutgers game; since he played in a game after the team's midway point of the season, he cannot get a medical redshirt.

While Michigan is a great school and would be attractive to many high school basketball players, the Michigan stuff seems like noise in the signal.

Not an attempt to hijack this thread but if anyone here is not aware of the story about Austin Hatch and his life story, you should do yourself a favor and youtube him immediately. One of the most inspiring sports stories I have ever heard.

Assuming it wouldn't be a medical Red Shirt it would be a medical retirement like Tyler's.

Sounds like the michigan stuff was a bunch of hooey. Apparently Williams is just a back up plan for if Lavert goes to the NBA. So as long as LaVert returns they're not a player.

UVA just lost Justin Anderson, they could make a move here although some of their insiders say Tony B isn’t really a fan

If Levert leaves I'll be shocked. He at best is Anthony Morrow.

Yeah but he wouldn't get picked in the 1st round. I say at best Anthony Morrow. Morrow took years to stick in the league.

This is way off topic, but I don't see the Anthony Morrow comp at all. He's a better athlete than Morrow, but Morrow is quietly one of the five best catch and shoot guys in the league. Levert can't shoot it like that.

The Kenny Williams camp seems much less vocal about what's going on in terms of top schools, etc. Hopefully that's a good thing. Plus, it's always a good thing for Georgetown when parents are a factor and the kid isn't all about twitter.
