When we recruit role players who are busts, they end up being Nikita. Not sure I'd label Mescheriakov as a "bust" inasmuch as he never fit the system. Same with Omar Wattad.

I'd agree. Neither were a bust for me. Never had high expectations for them. Problem was neither should have been recruited in the first place. Glad to see the bar has been raised a lot higher. Not a knock against them either.

Not sure where this Pugh kids fits, but there seem to have been three types of recruits in the JTIII era: 1) Can't miss highly coveted prospect that is highly rated and the program targets: Of those that came to us, Freeman, Wright, Macklin, Summers & Monroe all seem to fit that description with guys like Noel, Vonleh, & TJ Warren being the misses. 2) The solid prospect that maybe you jump on early in case they blow up: Bolden, Hollis Thompson, Domingo, and there are too many to name that we didn't get like Reddic, Tyrone Johnson, Ochefu & Christmas. It could easily be argued that these guys could also have been on the can't miss list for solid college careers and just never fully materialized or materialized for another school. 3) The late heave. Mescheriakov, Wattad, almost the entire first recruiting class, Porter, Bennimon, Whittington, Hayes, Ayegba all fall in this category. Otto was a very late bloomer as was Whit and we got lucky depending on your perspective. If you can stick to 1's and 2's which the marquee programs seem to always do, you are probably going to do better than most. The staff has done a great job in my opinion of finding some late talent but to have guys like Govan & Derrickson already in hand makes things a lot easier to state the painfully obvious.
Championships at this school will be built with 2's, not the 1's. The ones need to compliment the twos and maybe you make a run. Kentucky & Kansas seem to be the only programs that are primarily built on 1's and have title hopes every year. We have to find our path through and I think the coaches seem to be focused on that and the current assistants are really doing great on that front.

Nice video on the kid.. You can see the work with his trainer is paying off, the drive & pull-up jumper @ the 32 second mark is lovely.. The kid has skills.. More importantly looks to have a high upside.. A bump to get the thread back to focusing on Pugh... I fully acknowledge I had a big part in it going sideways... Close your eyes MCI..

Not sure you can call it a buzzer beater when your team still loses the quarter...
However it's a nice one-dribble pull up from 3 by the kid..

If you beat the buzzer, it is a buzzer beater.

dmvelite.com/news/georgetown-prep-downs-boys-latin#.VHu8x6DipAA.twitterKody Pugh, Boys Latin 2016 Wing: Pugh didnt have his best day offensively, and did most of his damage at the free throw line en route to 15 points. He was able to get to the basket and had several opportunities for put-backs that just wouldn’t fall. However, the lanky 6-7 Pugh still showed why he’s so highly regarded, as he cleaned the glass and erased or deterred several shots on the defensive end. Pugh is a gifted passer with good vision
