It is amazing that Emily was able to do that. I would have liked her to be out on the track helping the women and this week attempting to make the NCAA finals. Anyway, best of luck to Emily.

Women defeated George Mason 6-2 today in a scrimmage.
They take on Penn St Saturday at 2pm in their last tune up before the season kicks off on August 22nd @ San Diego.
Women are Ranked 20th in the preseason. ( Note College Soccer polls are not as well informed as college basketball polls, they pretty much take where you finished last year and just slap that up there regardless of additions or subtractions, but it's still nice to be ranked for some publicity.)

Good win against a WCC opponent. The WCC invariably has some of the best soccer teams in the nation with Portland and Santa Clara winning national titles. Good homecoming for Vanessa.

women tie long beach st 0-0 in 2OT. Would've been nice to come out with a win, but oh well, not the end of the world.

The senior surrendered her lone goal in a 3-1 win at San Diego on Friday, before preserving a 0-0 draw in the weekend finale against Long Beach State. Newins stopped six shots by the 49ers, including three in overtime, to collect her first shutout of the young season." "BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll Daphne Corboz, Georgetown, Sr., M Corboz had a hand in all three Georgetown goals last weekend, scoring one and assisting on two as the No. 20/15 Hoyas went 1-0-1 to open the season."

Hoyas throttle NC State, 6-0. Despite losing star defender Emily Menges to graduation and a pro career with the Portland Thorns, after the first three games their Goals Against Average is 0.33 - not too shabby.
They now go on the road for 4 consecutive games, including 2 more ACC squads (#6-ranked Virginia Tech and #20-ranked Wake Forest) and at #11 West Virginia. This should be a well-seasoned squad by the time conference play starts.

www.bigeast.com/sports/w-soccer/spec-rel/090114aaa.htmlBIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week Vanessa Skrumbis, Georgetown, Sr., F Skrumbis ignited Georgetown’s high-scoring offense this week with a combined four goals and one assist for nine points over two games. The Hoyas, who knocked off North Carolina State and Towson last week, remained unbeaten thanks in part to Skrumbis’ two goals and one assist against the Wolfpack and two goals against the Tigers. The senior has turned in two-goal games three times this season as her 13 points in 2014 lead all BIG EAST players. BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll: Emma Newins, Georgetown, Sr., GK Newins earned a pair of shutout wins last week, making a combined four saves in 113 minutes in wins over North Carolina State and Towson.
