Would definitely be nice to get him on campus again. Underrated player imo.

www.krossover.com/blog/2014/07/recruiting-roundup-072514/Haanif Cheatham / 6-5 CG / Nike Team Florida / 2015A versatile combo guard, Cheatham stood out with his savvy and lit it up with an barrage of threes and finishes around the basket in a morning blowout win. A smooth, assertive athlete, Cheatham boasts great size and the skill set to excel both on and off the ball and at either guard position. Also a capable defender, he’s one of those players you can tell “gets it” just by watching him go for a minute or two. Playing with a confident, even keel, Cheatham was as impressive as any guard in the gym on Thursday and looked like one of the more underrated top-100 national prospects. He recently named California, Florida State, Georgetown, Georgia, Marquette and Baylor as his six finalists.

The more I see and hear about this kid, the more I think I want him on the squad. He seems like a good fit. B&G, any insight into where he ranks on the staff's list? Is he secondary to guys like Dorsey and Dozier or is he a priority?

Considering the slots that need to be filled, I'd be willing to bet that the staff's rankings of wants are somewhat less important than who is willing to sign up first. I could be wrong but if Haanif wanted to commit, the staff would likely be thrilled.

The staff obviously likes all these kids, I'm just trying to get a sense of whether or not they prioritize them.

I'm only saying that the top guys that are being targeted, when the needs are glaring, are less dependent on the prioritization than the choices of the recruits and in which order they happen. That said, to satisfy curiosity, it would be fun to know who the staff would pick in a perfect world and in which order. In any case, I like that the staff doesn't seem to be scaling back the effort even with commitments. They're still on the road hitting a ton of games and checking in on a bunch of kids.

Well B&G has an inside track on the recruiting front which is why I directed my question toward him. I wasn't expecting a numbered list or anything, but the fact that the staff has been EVERYWHERE watching EVERYONE all the time is what makes it difficult to figure out if they actually prioritize certain guys over others and who those guys are.

Cheatham has G'town in his final list and is set to commit on September 5th.. He also has visits setup with Cal & Marquette in August.. Imho he should be at the top of the list right now, if they covet him they need to act like it now.. From what I've read they are, which is a good thing..

Fair point. And how great is it that they've been everywhere watching everyone assuming, of course, that they're really showing the love to their top targets? Like you, I wouldn't expect a numbered list either which is why I responded to your first post letting you know that B&G commented that the staff loves the kid in case you hadn't seen it. I don't know if you'll get more info than that but it's certainly worth a shot.

Staff really likes Cheatham and thinks he'd play an important role for us.....he, along with bacon, dozier and Dorsey all have committable offers.....we'd happily take any of these guys.
While I would love to know exactly where each kid ranks in terms of priority to the staff....I just don't go there. I know who they love and who they like but not in any particular order. Recruiting is such a thankless job that if you start listing priorities it's as if you are setting yourself to be disappointed. In the end, Cheatham is in the top tier of guys we are after.

I also think we have a better shot landing Cheatham than say a Dorsey, as a result their interest level is elevated with a guy like Haanif. Dorsey and Trier are the shinier objects, but the staff knows that having a solid two way player like Cheatam would be a very good get.

I'm sure everyone appreciates any info you provide and I can't understand why some keep pushing you for details that seem a bit out of bounds. No one should be using the open HT boards to flat out ask you details about the coaches' motives and priorities because it may put you in a difficult position. In my opinion such questions should be asked via PM or you yourself should post any such thoughts on these main boards only through your own volition, without anyone pressing you beforehand to do so. Keep up the good work.

That sounds like exactly the way to do it--a tier of guys w committable offers, a tier of guys w conditional offers, and, sometimes, a "save a scholarship no matter what" recruit (I'd assume that's Rabb this year, but that there isn't always a guy like that that we are on) Thanks again for all the info B&G

Good news, and thanks for the info as always. I'm glad Cheatham has a committable offer, I think he's perfect for our system. By just watching the videos and reading scouting reports, he seems to have a strong basketball IQ on both ends. And he's also got nice size for a combo guard. It also seems like we have a better chance with him than Bacon/Dozier/Dorsey.

www.givengobasketball.com/narrowing-down-listsGeorgetown- It’s a great school with plenty of tradition and history. It’s a beautiful campus and Coach Thompson knows what he is doing with his players and helps them progress to have a shot at the next level. I feel like I can get better on and off the court there.I really like his mindset.. Also glad to read his decision date isn't set in stone..
