This is the week of the Penn Relays, and as usual the Hoyas will be running many of the championship of America events. I think the Hoyas on the men's side have the best chance in the 4x800 relay, as they have about five runners capable of sub 1:50 times. On the women's side probably the DMR will be the strongest. Katrina Coogan is redshirting this season, so she will not be availabe, but Rachel Schneider comes back for her final season. A team of Pierce (or Neczypor), Kimbers, Keklah, and Schneider will be competitive. But the top teams in the nation will be competing, including Stanford, Oregon, and Villanova. Most of the action starts tomorrow.
Georgetown is hosting a gathering on Friday at the Relays and the guest of honor will be former track coach Ron Helmer.

First major relay will be the women's DMR. While Penn used to be more of a regional meet, it is now a national meet, and the Hoyas will face stiff competition today. Part of the lineup for the DMR is as follows:
AA Villanova AB Stanford AC Oregon AD Georgetown AE Dartmouth AF Duke AG Tennessee AH Columbia AI New Mexico AJ Texas

This should be alot of fun. Hoya men and women should do well in a number of events. Nevada, do you know yet who we will have in what relay? Women's DMR obviously a marquee event but i would think that if we ran our top runners, the women could do very well in the 4X800.

We were fantasizing of the DMR team of Schneider, Kimbers, Keklak, and Coogan, but since Katrina is redshirting, somebody will have to replace her. Actually, I think Rachel will run the anchor, and somebody will replace her for the leadoff - probably the runner who impressed in workouts this week.
The 4x800 will probably be Schneider, Keklak, Southerland, and Deloache, Cox, or Keenan, if she is not redshirting.
On the men's side the 4x800 should be our best best with a lineup of Manahan, Amos, Bile, and Ledder. They should be capable of at least a sub-7:20.

Probably if we had Katrina we could have been up with Villanova and Stanford. As it was we were in the hunt right before the anchor leg. I would have expected Rachel to be up with Lipari and Cuffe; maybe Lipari would beat her in the sprint to the finish, but I didn't expect the 9 s gap at the end. Well, to be Darthmouth and Oregon was quite an accomplishment. Rachel had a better split than Roesler, the NCAA indoors 800m champ. And she just barely held off Abbey.

No more major relays today, but we will have some individuals in the 3000mSC and 5000m races and maybe one in the 10,000m.

Actually, not a final, but qualifying for the 4x400m relay. The first eight teams qualify for the Championship of American final, while the next eight qualify for the ECAC final. The Hoyas finished 14th in the prelims in heat 4.

We had four listed in the men's 3000mSC, but the results showed no Hoyas. Those four ran a hard SC last week in the Mt. Sac relays, so I was wondering why they were entered.

Too bad Rachel does not seem to be sharp yet. I suspect that we would have gotten second, outside shot at first with Katrina coogan--I think it would have been hard for coogan to outsprint lipari at Penn. Not sure what has happened with Rachel--she ran incredibly wellthrough last summer. On the + side the 400/800/1200 legs were very strong. We will have a shot at the win again next yr.

Most of our entries in the distance events tonight did not run. The only Hoya listed was Kirsten Kasper and she had a DNF. Apparently, they are being saved for relay duty. Brian King is still listed in the 10,000m, but he ran a 10K recently. No results on that race yet.

Nobody in the 10,000m last night.
First major relay (for the Hoyas) for Friday was the 4x1500m and Villanova again barely held off Stanford (GU conection with alumnus Chris Miltenberg head coach). Lipari is earning her keep this week. The Hoyas came in 6th (this was a relay that the Hoyas were not really concentrating on, since they were pointing toward the DMR and 4x800 relays):

Darthmouth's Abby D'Agostino really blasted her anchor leg and Lipari outkicked Cuffe again as Nova and Stanford were tied going into the anchor leg. I was disappointed by Haley's leg; she might be still recovering from her nice 5000m at Mt. SAC. Look for us to bounce back in the 4x800m relay.

Decent splits by the men. We didn't lose much on the 400m leg except to Oregon and Stanford, who both outclassed the rest of the field on that leg.

Yes, I am hoping that both men and women do something special in the 4x800 relays tomorrow.
In the boys' HS 3000m I was hoping our recruit from lic's old school would do well. Alas,
