I continue to be frustrated by the transfer of our players. I understand that Domingo didn't live up to what we all thought his potential was comming in (although I find it hard to draw conclusions about his ability to shoot the 3 based on 27 shots in total spread out over 2 season of sporadic playing time), but since when was a 2-year put-up or shut-up period imposed on players? Hank didn't blossom until his senior year and now is playing in the NBA. Who saw that coming after his first, second or third year? Both him and Georgetown ended up better for his having stayed. We lost Vee Sanford because he didn't have a spot on our team (apparently), and he then went on to be one of the most valuable players for an elite eight squad. The fact is that we are a team that should be built around 3-4 year type players (we are not going to beat UK and KU for one and done types on a regular basis), yet somehow we are not recruiting guys who are willing to commit to 4-years on the hill(or even worse, pushing out guys if we don't like their status at the half-way point). Look at the long transfer list on the recruiting page. It is the nature of the game these days, and virtually every major conference (and many mid-major) team goes through it. There are any number of reasons. In Domingo's case I think it was a combination: he did not improve his game, including the defensive end, as much as necessary; he not only lost confidence in his shot, he seemed to lose his mechanics; and maybe most importantly, we were able to recruit players at his position that are just better than him. I tend to doubt he was pushed out the door, but I am sure JTIII makes it clear at the end of the season where he thinks each guy fits onto the plan for the next season. And as for Vee, to take a moment to beat that dead horse (in honor of the Run for the Roses tomorrow) - he had a spot on the team, it was just a ways down the pecking order, and he was not satisfied with it so he left. He became a bench player for a mid-major. He contributed, they had a nice run this year, and he had a moment to remember for a lifetime. All due respect Frazier but both years Vee played for Dayton he was in their top 5 players for minutes played.. It's water under the bridge now but why diminish his accomplishments..

I wasn't diminishing him. He was a big contributor at Dayton. And that floater against Syracuse earned him a special place in the hearts of all of us Hoya fans in upstate NY. But it's not like he became a big star after he left us. He had a very nice last 2 years. I was really happy for him - even though I picked Ohio State in my pool!

Good luck to Domingo. I hope he gets some playing time out there.

Wish Domingo nothing but the best. Really hoping to see him get his shot back and find a strong contributing role. I hope he uses this year break to get it all going in the right direction.

Sometimes the fit isn't good or it just doesn't work out. Best of luck to Domingo. I hope he finds his stroke and is happy at his new school.

There was literally nothing the past 2 years that suggested he is a high D1 player. His shot/form was atrocious every time he put it up and didn't show a handle at all. Exactly. I said as much when he committed to the Hoyas and got blasted on this message board for posting what I observed personally. Two mid-major players owned him in high school, and yes, so did Aaron Gordon (there is no shame in that). Plus, he made the mistake of skipping his senior year in high school. What kid does that? Not even NBA lottery picks. Having said that, he appears to be a kid of character, so a change of scenery might do him some good. I also predicted he would get homesick once things didn't work out (lack of playing time) and he would migrate back to California. It happens all the time with over-rated California recruits who can't handle the physical nature of east coast and midwest basketball. The difference between basketball at DeMatha is entirely different than at Sacred Heart Cathedral. He's no Allen Crabbe, but perhaps between him and Jabari Bird, another highly touted shooter, they can become close to that.

Didn't he go to St. Ignatius? Not Sacred Heart Cathedral? But same difference. BTW, Michael Reher of the track team also is from St. Ignatius and he was the valedictorian of the SFS this year.

He did go to SI, which has great football and baseball programs. Basketball in the Bay Area isn't a primary draw sport as the two others mantioned are, but the competition is good. As De LaSalle football pushed them into national football, similar has been happening with baseball (mostly competing with schools from Cali, Texas, and Arizona), but basketball has started doing similar to get the most competitive schools competing. Bay Area basketball compete with teams from Los Angeles, Sacramento, Portland, and Seattle. As well AAU on the West Coast is were most kids find their basketball competition and not as much in the high schools, even in high schools.
Domingo took his opportunity on the 17U USA team to get that competition. That was a great move on his part. SI may not have been the best basketball option for him and they play traditional ball with the tallest kid playing back to the basket center, which was Domingo.
SI produced Barry Bonds and 6 other MBL starters and Tom Brady and 4 other NFL starters in the past 25 years or so. Basketball never has had the foundation to do that at SI.

Minor point of correction. Neither Brady nor Bonds went to SI. Rather to another school in their league... Serra in San Mateo.

More recruits need to take note of things like these. There are coaches who will help you transfer and coaches who will vindictively hold you back. It's not just important if you transfer; it's also a strong indicator of the type of people they are.
