Can we move this to the Blue & Gray Board so that I can get really, REALLY snarky? Nothing wrong in taking pride in your education and alma mater. I certainly do and wouldn't trade it for anything. (Yeah, even you, Princeton, you jerks! You were NEVER my first choice anyway!!) As such, a little bravado in defense of our school (or at least the money we spent to go there) is understandable. But there are lots of good schools. More importantly, there are lots of good students who, given the opportunity, will make success for themselves regardless of where they are fortunate enough to matriculate. The world is full of these people. I call them "Republicans." That's not fair. You can also call them "Democrats that are politically connected"

The hypocrisy in this post is stunningly hilarious. Pot, meet kettle. Yeah but the difference is once side is justified, and the other side is just misguided. Even more ironic given that as fas I know, the OP who made the "elitist" statement that is being lambasted did not even go to Georgetown. But you and Cosmo can continue to make your blanket generalizations even though the only poster making the "elitist" comment did not even go to GU (and I admit that his posts seems awfully out there). Good stuff.

C'mon everyone. Can we get this thread (like all others at the moment) back to a discussion of Vee Sanford?

cosmopolitanhoya, I hear you. When I graduated Georgetown in 2003, I had a friend who got a job at JP Morgan, and he was somewhere in that range - about 60K starting and about the same in bonus. I would not be surprised if they make more now, but I also know of people who had those jobs in 2002 and 2003 who were promised they would get a bonus equal to their salary, but because of the smaller recession at the time, they got nothing. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if there are some people who do make a lot.
To be fair, it's extremely competitive to get those jobs, and even at Georgetown only a handful of people get jobs like that. But, Georgetown does open that door in ways some other colleges may not (and likewise, other universities may open doors that Georgetown cannot open for you).
As for the degree comparison, it's really sort of a silly debate, and I don't know that either side here is right. It's true that a Georgetown degree can open some doors that aren't open elsewhere. If you deny that, you are denying reality.
But, likewise, what you do with your career and college degree is probably an even bigger factor. A degree can open a door, but it cannot get you through. I know people from my Georgetown class who have had great careers thus far; in contrast, I know people who have done very little with their degree and could have easily been in the same place had they not attended Georgetown. And people who don't go to schools as well known as Georgetown succeed all the time. You cannot make generalizations when it comes to individual success.

So Vee is going to Stanford too? Would you prefer to go to Stanford, Dayton, or be a Republican? This is a trick question. Some Dayton grads are also Republicans.

I continue to be amazed at the elitism of some Hoyas. Totally agree with Ed on this one.

Well it's good to see HT is in mid-summer form already. No slow starts to the offseason here.

Vee Sanford already beat Stanford, so there is no reason to go there.

Stanford was originally on the top of his list b4 Georgetown, but they thought he should graduate from H.S. first.
