In the immediate aftermath of the conference realignment chaos, the Hoyas (and all other BE teams) need to play anywhere they can generate some national interest and gain television exposure. Not to deminimize the value of a large home crowd, but truthfully these kids come to a school like Georgetown to be on national television and gain exposure and not necessarily to play in a half-empty Verizon Center. I understand the chicken and egg argument about the value of a packed arena, and the obligation to the season ticket holders, but until the BE is re-established as a power conference it is more important to play the bigger names--even on neutral courts. Besides it helps recruiting to get the Hoya brand out of the DC area. Time to play a game in Texas if we are going to continue to pursue Texas kids.

Of course it isn't a home game for the Hoyas. That's a bummer. Given the timing of this game, I actually think New York might be a better venue. If this game was held in DC, two days after Christmas, I think there would probably be very few Hoyas fans in attendance. There would be no students there, and even while being at home, it wouldn't have a real home game feel. Thus, given the circumstances, I think the game will probably get better attendance at MSG than it would at the Verizon Center, so I have no real problem with it. Depending on how the Big 10 / Big East thing shakes out, we could very well start the season with a Big 10 opponent at home, which would be nice consolation. Arguably, our OOC schedule could be better and more exciting than our Big East schedule, with another Big 10 opponent to start the season, Kansas, potentially three high quality games in Atlantis, and now Indiana. That's potentially 6 very high quality games. As of now, only one is home, which stinks for season ticket holders, but it's great for the team and NCAA chances/seeding if we can win some of these games. If we can win 4 of those 6 (feasible, in my opinion), and go 10-8 in the Big East, I think we'd be an easy tournament team. I think we can do better than this, too, depending on how things shake out. Actually, the Gavitt Games will start next season in 2015-16, so we will not have that "other Big 10 opponent" to start this season, but will afterwards. While not particularly sexy, I actually like the Robert Morris game news - they made it just as far as we did in the NIT last season, and many still remember their first round NIT upset of defending champion Kentucky the year before. Should be a decent mid-major test.

Would love to see us get a game against a PAC-12 team.

Not in DC so less sensitive to season ticket issues...I am all for getting a #1 SOS every year at all costs. As long as computer models rule the world I am all for taking advantage of it. SOS makes such a difference so why not?

SOS makes such a difference so why not? Plus, with a group of athletes coming to the Hilltop that we all feel will allow us to compete at the highest level, I, too, believe we should challenge ourselves against top opponents as much as practicality allows.

No head to head, but fans can at least hurl insults at each other like the '70s.

Sounds like the BB&T Classic. Have things thawed with Feinstein or has he been moved aside as a condition for the Hoyas participation?

I heard the BB&T died last year when we beat UMD one too many times. This looks like a straight up double header which could make some financial sense... get discount on Verizon rental + better take at the gate with three local teams?

Either GU is the replacement or the tournament is defunct. The Dec 7 date was the scheduled date for the John Feinstein Invitational before MD played its Big Ten card and opted out.

I like the Hoyas-GW "doubleheader." Solid event for local DC basketball. Decent exposure for local recruits.

Is there a point to this doubleheader that I don't understand?

Ben Standig @benstandig 3m Towson announces game against Georgetown on Dec. 7 "as part of the BB&T Classic." Doubleheader with GW-Charlotte. #Hoyas Expand

Follow-up tweet by Standig says: "The doubleheader and specific opponents has been rumored. Whether it would be part BB&T Classic was unclear. Terps out, Hoyas in."
Personally would've preferred "Terps in, Hoyas in, Mason in."
