Now it would be nice to start his son on his journey there in a Hoya uniform.

Man! That's fantastic! Mourning is just a class act. The selection was probably as much for his contributions off the court as it was for on the court. One of my favorite Hoyas. Of course Michael Grahm's ferocious dunks and in your face style of play is why I adopted the pen name.

Well deserved. Great player and a model human being. Another Hoya that was always incredibly easy to root for. Congratulations Mr. Mourning!

Is Rayful Edmond going to do the presentation. HEY JUST JOKING!!! But this show what great leadership and education can do for a young. Great ball player and upstanding citizen as well. I agree with all of the post. 4 year of college didn't hurt his career but yet enhanced his life.
Go Zo well deserved!!!

Well-deserved.
There will be arguments concerning this selection. Comparisons will be made to other finalists who were not selected. So and so has better stats. So and so had more All-Star game selections. So and so had less of a supporting cast when he won an NBA championship.
On any measure Zo had a HOF career. This selection though was made on Zo's intangibles. Character, persona, and his unique narrative.
Carrying on the legacy of Big Man U.

Actually, I was surprised to see Spencer Haywood is not in. He deserves it.

Wow, that is wonderful news. Alonzo Mourning is my absolute favorite basketball player, I love him. From his incredible Georgetown career, to those fun Hornet teams, to those not so fun, but brutally effective, Heat teams, the kidney scare, and then finally getting a ring as perhaps the nastiest backup center in NBA history. Alonzo's D off the bench in that Heat - Mavs finals was perhaps the second biggest reason the Heat won, behind Wade's insane display of driving and finishing, and the subsequent puppy love for Wade from the refs. Ok, third biggest reason. Anyway, the Mavs would be tearing the Heat up inside at the start of every game, and then, Shaq would sit, out comes Alonzo, playground closed. So much fun to watch. Incredible heart, tough as nails, and on a very short list of the greatest shot blockers that ever lived. A Hall of Famer on and off the court.
Congrats ZO!!!!!

Congratulations to Alonzo. I flew out to DC a few years ago when he was inducted into the Georgetown Hall of Fame. I got the pleasure to meet Alonzo, Tracy and Trey. I was amazed at how polite Alonzo was that night as he was stopped dozens of times by Hoya fans asking for a picture with the Hoya great. He is one of my favorite Hoyas of all time. A true warrior both on and off the court!

Great news! This was his first attempt right? I thought it may take him two or three tries before he made it (still think that is the case with Mutombo). JT may end up with four former players who make it to the Hall of Fame (AI is a first ballot lock).

Zo wasn't a lock for first ballot but Deke isn't a shoe-in in any year. If you look at Zo's numbers without knowing anything else, they don't jump off the page. Statistically, he's almost borderline. But he was also one of those players, in college and the pros, that numbers don't reflect his presence on a team or on the floor. Zo could be dominant without putting up dominant numbers. He also put up dominant numbers for a handful of years. I'm glad he was inducted his first year because, Hoya or not, he deserves it.

But Dennis Rodman proved, and so did a few other guys, that it doesn't always come down to that. Mutombo was an astounding rebounder who also happened to be a three time Defensive Player of the Year and roughly 8 time (maybe more) All Star Player. Plus he started for two teams that made the NBA Finals and was an All-American in college. That is a worthy resume. Plus there is the added bonus who is well-liked and is known for his considerable charity off the court, sometimes under the NBA banner. I bet you Ben Wallace will be getting into the Hall of Fame as well despite being a guy known for his defense and rebounding much more than his offensive contributions. Of course Wallace has an advantage with an NBA Championship, but Deke has the advantage with far more All Star selections.
