Series like this are positive because it guarantees some good quality OOC games and it will help conference RPI. Yep, totally agree. Looks like Nova will have a strong non-conference RPI next season as well, based on the article.

Was the level of the other competing schools an indication of the Johnnies' desperation? Would have thought there would be more competition for a kid who led the nation, even at the JUCO level.

4. The Gavitt Tipoff Games will raise the entire profile of the Big East. The league needed an event like this to elevate its status in the non-conference portion of the schedule and the Gavitt Tipoff Games should provide the Big East with the type of early season forum it desperately needs to make national statements on a regular basis. Starting in the 15-16 season, the Big East and the Big Ten will begin a yearly event that will feature four games between the two conferences played on college campuses during the first week of the season. Several Big East programs would have had an extremely difficult time getting home and home series' with high-level schools in the Big Ten and this event now provides an avenue for the Big East to establish itself early in each season. The new version of the Big East struggled last year to be a true factor nationally as a league and one of the biggest reasons why was because the conference didn't perform at the highest level in November and December. That directly affected the type of games bubble teams were getting during conference play in February and early March. If you're not building an NCAA resume with quality wins in November and December, it makes it that much harder to move the needle when you're a team fighting for a bid during the heart of your conference schedule. The Gavitt Tipoff Games should now give all Big East teams involved a game against a quality opponent that can turn into a resume type of win for the entire season. www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/24555219/rebuilding-guru-ben-howland-a-perfect-fit-for-oregon-state

@verbalcommits New Conference Average Star Rankings - 1 ACC, 2 Big East, 3 Big Ten, 4 SEC, 5 Pac12 6 Big 12 7 American As a part of our revamped conference displays, we added an average star calculation by conference. You can checkout the full list of conferences here. What stuck me after running the numbers, was that the drop-off after the top seven conferences, to the mid-majors was substantial and noticeable. The major conferences had average star ratings ranging from 3.29 to 3.01. The first mid-major conference, the A10, has an average star rating of 2.49. That's a more dramatic drop-off in talent than I had expected to see, particularly given the level of parity in today's game. It does however track the conference ratings work by Ken Pomoroy (subscription required). There is a similar drop in analysis of conference performance, though not as a dramatic, from the Majors to the Mid-majors at kenpom. verbalcommits.com/blog/average-conference-star-ratings

With the recent commits of Mourning, Dickerson, and Govan how is Georgetown and the BE recruiting ranking been affected for 2014 and 2015 classes?
