I agree with everything you say here EXCEPT for the part about Stoudamire. He is the same height as Zo and is a better pure athlete and not just in the jumping category. He's faster, quicker and is in fact a better jumper. Not saying he's a better player and doesn't do the things that Zo did, but to call him an inferior athlete is pushing it a little. Zo is certainly a better rebounder, shot blocker and post defender (although Stoudamire still have a few years to develop).
Let's just say he doesn't average 13 dunks a game...

I think people look at Zo in the NBA and Amare in the NBA and think Amare is the better athlete because he seems more fluid and has less muscle. Mourning is a center at 6'10", and bulked up quite a bit where he lost some range of motion. So when he plays he may not look as athletic as Amare because of all the muscle he had back in the day. I don't look at Amare and Mourning being the best athletes. Antonio McDyess was an athlete. He had a 48 vertical jump for someone 6'10" and ran like a guard. That is an athlete. But lets not belittle the players. They are great more because of their determination, hard work, mental toughness, and intelligence, not just athleticism.

Silly bastard that I am, I clicked on a thread that is titled "Re: 6'10 Abdoulye Ndiaye JC - Potential Spring Rec" and I thought I might actually read about a potential spring recruit! Wesley isn't coming BACK, is he??
I think in addition to Clutter Police, we should have Threadjacking police!

There is nothing wrong with that. In fact, its quite healthy. Try particpating instead of complaining.

You are right, _way. But that's the problem, you are alway right! Why would I ever debate you, O Omniscient one?
I was trying to make light of the fact that this thread has totally veered off course. Sorry you took offense at a joke that wasn't even directed at you -- maybe it is time to up your meds. Settle down.

mci, you must only remember zo as he is now. as a college and early nba player he was as athletic as any center in basketball. he beat other centers up the floor, which says something about his athletic ability. the shot blocking alone has as much to do with athletic ability as it does his natural instinct to block shots. i never compared him to amare. that would be unfair. no center is as athletic as amare. you made it sound like he had no athletic abilty and only made good through hard work. i may not be as objective as you when it comes to zo, but i also don't base my beliefs on what other people say. wilson isn't even on the same planet as zo in any terms.

I have a vivid memory of Zo in college and still have 90% of his college games on tape in case I ever forgot. But I'm sorry if I'm not into revisionism. Zo could dunk. Zo could run the court. But Zo wasn't one of those freaky athletic big man who made you shake your head in disbelief. Never said Zo was a stiff, I never wrote that he wasn't athletic. But a couple of you tried to suggest that Wilson was not even close to Zo in terms of athleticism and I simply think that's nonsense. We have had these arguments so many times on this board that I won't go down this road again., I'll just continue to believe my own eyes. We will agree to disagree. Let me add that after seeing a bunch of Ewing highlights over the years its obvious that Ewing was a freak of nature. He was by far the most athletically gifted big man the Hoyas have ever had. That's one thing I'm sure all of us agree on.
