Too early to talk about this guy? Assume he won't be 5'6" forever. But this is a fun watch.

From Rivals... "I was surprised by... Maybe surprised isn't the right word, but 2017 point guard Chris Lykes of host Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga is going to make people like myself and college coaches think outside of the box when it comes to evaluating him. Though he probably stands no taller than 5-foot-6, the sheer force of will with which he plays the game and the toughness he has to impose that will has to be respected and accounted for. It's one thing to have will, but the three-star junior has developed skill to go along with his toughness. He is very creative with the dribble, passes extremely well and he knocks down open shots. He is an A-type personality on the floor and his teammates gravitate to him. Miami, Richmond, VCU, George Washington, George Mason, Tulane, La Salle and Dayton are among those who have seen enough to offer while others like Vanderbilt, Notre Dame and Virginia are looking hard as well. Currently unranked, Lykes deserves serious consideration for the Rivals150." basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1835958

I know we don't have a lot of scholarships in the 2017 class and might not even be recruiting a pure PG in that class but if we are, I'm all in with this kid. Height Police be da****! This kid can flat out play and has an alpha dog mentality! Scores it at all 3 levels, makes his teammates better and is a 1 man press break. Teams won't even think of pressing with Lykes on the floor! What more can you ask for from your PG!

No thanks. Maybe he develops, but he's not nearly as quick with the ball as I was expecting. As his game stands and projects his size might be a problem at the next level, just one man's opinion though

The level of skill needed to compete successfully at the elite Division I level at 5'6" is once in a generation type skill. He looked talented but it is tough to say he is there.

CHRIS LYKES, PG, GONZAGA COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL, 2O17: I dare you to find a more entertaining ballplayer at the lead guard spot within the 2017 class. Go ahead, try it! Chris Lykes always brings the fire and grit to the hardwood and absolutely flourishes in speeding the game up. He has impeccable elevation on his 15-feet and out jumpers, of which he can rise up at any time and convert over the taller defender. His size may hurt him as he stands at 5-foot-7 on a good day, yet he more than makes up for it by way of his on-ball defense, passing skills within the early offense, and unbelievable speed and quickness with the basketball in his hands.
On Friday evening and at the Gonzaga DC Classic, Chris Lykes cemented himself as a high-major prospect. While he is just 5-foot-7, the dynamic lead guard doesn’t relent against any sort of physicality, can score it, pass it, and defend, and is an alpha type at the point guard position.

I would take a hard look if he really is a player. I am okay with short guards if they can really ball.

How many times do we need to get destroyed by small guard with elite level quickness using dribble penetration to completely destroy our defense before we get one of our own. I hope we hear that JT3 is sitting courtside at Chris Lykes games in the near future. We need a kid like this for at minimum matchup purposes. We need a kid who in games like this where the team is struggling in executing JT3's offense, you can let him go simple pick n roll and create opportunities for teammates while attacking the defense off the bounce. The easiest way to break a defense down is with a guard who can attack off the bounce and get into the key. I was all in for Day Day and like I said earlier in this post, I'm all in for Chris Lykes!

I'm not sure I'm all in for Lykes like you, but I tend to agree with your overall point. A trend in our mid-major losses over the years is being out-quicked on the perimeter. Also, with the shorter shot clock and freedom of movement calls it puts even more emphasis on that type of skillset. To JTIII's credit, I think he sees where the game is going and has tried to recruit a lot of dynamic guards in 2015 and 2016. Unfortunately, he's struck out on all of them except Mosely. But as we see with Monmouth, you don't need to be in the top 100 to be a quick, athletic guard who can shoot.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
Recruiting the same type of guards over and over and expecting not to be beaten by some random "Mid Major" with quick small guard who guts your teams defense by attacking the basket at will and kicking it out for wide open 3's, finishes at the rym or throws ridiculous lobs, has been the Georgetown definition of insanity for the last 7 years. Let's change that!
Everybody on here who are yawning at the thought of this kid or are not interested because his lack of height probably would have said no Tyler Ulis of Kentucky as well. If this kid was 6'2" with his skill set, you would think we have no shot at him. Ask yourself, besides height what's missing from this kids game? This kid did work against Dematha last season as a sophomore. The same Dematha with 2 top 10 ranked kids in their perspective class. Don't come trying to jump on the bandwagon next summer/fall when this kids ranked in the top 100 if not higher.
I'M ALL IN FOR CHRIS LYKES!

Google the definition of insanity. That's not it. Not sure why people continually repeat this doing things over and expecting line.
What this program lacks is basketball players. Not guys that play basketball, but actual basketball players. Guys that know what they are doing when they step on the court. If this Baggins is a basketball player then we need him.
