Kansas is the king of grabbing the decommitted, late riser. Not a shock to see them in the mix.

Like what I see from Diallo. But are we even involved at this point?

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- A year ago, three-star senior power forward Nick Rakocevic of Westchester (Ill.) St. Joseph didn’t imagine he would find himself in his current situation. This time last year, Rakocevic was a four-star prospect and genuinely considered the top prospect from the class of 2016 in the state of Illinois. Now, he’s working hard to rebuild his game and reputation after a tough summer. At the HoopHall Classic on Saturday, Rakocevic looked as good as he has in quite some time while racking up 23 points and 18 rebounds in a tough loss to Springfield (Mass.) Catholic. After essentially starting his recruitment back a the beginning, Rakocevic listed offers from Miami, Auburn, Wisconsin, DePaul and Creighton to go along with interest from Louisville and North Carolina. IN HIS OWN WORDS “My senior year is pretty well right now. My teammates are giving me more confidence and my coaches are doing the same thing. “I know that I had a bad summer and scared some people away.” “I am kind of starting all over from the beginning. I kind of have to.” WHAT'S NEXT Rakocevic said that he wants to take a bit more time to see if anybody else gets involved before setting up official visits. He is one of the top available big men in America. RIVALS' REACTION More often than note, kids look for somebody else to blame when their reputation takes a slide but Rakocevic took the responsibility for his poor summer. More impressive is the much-improved attitude and activity level that he showed and his overall activity level. At HoopHall he was very active on the glass, showed spring around the hoop and some competitive fire. He still has to get much stronger and the lack of strength could be an issue for his first year or two in college. basketballrecruiting.n.rivals.com/news/nick-rakocevic-working-hard-to-rebuild-his-game-and-reputation

Don't be surprised if the Hoyas take an interest in this kid - late bloomer: "While the recruitment of the red-hot Mike Smith of Fenwick may not be at the level it should be after a monster first half of the season, a real misconception out there is that the talented point guard has not been recruited at the Division I level. Smith had multiple low-major and mid-major offers to choose from this past summer and fall, but the 5-10 senior decided to play out his final season. As a result of having high-level academics –– Smith boasts a 30 ACT score –– and the dynamic season he’s put together (averaging over 20 points a game), the interest will continue to grow. With a head-turning 38-point performance in a win over Simeon last week and 34 more in knocking off Riverside-Brookfield this past weekend, Smith is opening more eyes by the week. Vanderbilt has recently checked in on Smith, with UC Davis, San Diego, Saint Louis, Buffalo, Dartmouth and Columbia all showing varying amounts of interest." suntimeshighschoolsports.com/2016/01/26/henricksen-red-hot-marist-hyde-park-mike-smith-highlight-three-pointer/

High-majors after 6-10 center Nick Rakocevic Evan Daniels EVAN DANIELS Monday at 9:16 AM 2016 available big man Nick Rakocevic is averaging a gaudy 22 points and 17 rebounds a game and college coaches are taking notice. Nick Rakocevic showed up at the Hoop Hall Classic a week ago with something to prove. Rakocevic, a 6-foot-10 power forward, was coming off a summer, where he struggled to be effective, lacked consistency and fell on college recruiting boards. Now, the Westchester (Ill.) St. Joseph, is working his way back up. AnalysisNick Rakocevic has good height at 6-10, but a thin frame. He's equipped with a set of nice hands and good touch around the basket. He can face up and make mid-range jump shots with ease. He also finishes well with his right hand around the basket and likes to finish with a short right jump hook. At this stage, length, athleticism and physical play bother Rakocevic, so one of the next steps in his development centers around getting stronger and learning how to play physical. After struggling his final summer on the AAU circuit, Rakocevic put together a strong senior season and is playing much harder. “It’s going pretty well,” Rakocevic said of his senior season. “I think that this is the best season I’m having right now. My teammates are giving me a lot of confidence. My coaches are giving me a lot of motivation helping me get through a tough summer.” “It’s been really great,” he added. “It’s the best season I’ve had all my life.” At the Hoop Hall, Rakocevic went for 23 points and 18 rebounds, which are eerily similar numbers to his season averages of 22 points and 17 rebounds a game. Rakocevic said he attributes the gaudy numbers and successful season to improving his focus and just playing to win. “I think just working hard and having more love for the game,” he said. “I’m really going after it this year. I’m trying to grab every rebound and do everything possible for my team to get the W. I’m trying everything I can for us win.” His strong play, has led to increased college interest. Rakocevic currently claims scholarship offers from Auburn, Creighton, DePaul, Indiana, Miami, USC and Wisconsin. He has also garnered interest from the likes of Arizona State, California, Louisville, Minnesota, North Carolina and South Carolina. “I’m trying to get out to Miami and USC,” he said. “They offered me and are still recruiting him. I’m trying to get to Miami, USC, Louisville and North Carolina.” When will Rakocevic make his college choice? “A lot of schools are coming in so I'm waiting probably till after the season,” he said. www.scout.com/college/basketball/recruiting/story/1635808-high-majors-after-nick-rakocevic

I was just looking at our 2016 offer list on 24/7. If you want a heavy dose of depression go and have look at that page. We whiffed on 19/20 of our top 100 targets/offers. I know we always lose more than we get but I'm praying 2017 turns out opposite to 2016.
The real reason I looked was to see the consensus on the big Thompson we just offered. Seems everyone and their dog thinks Syracuse.

CHEICKNA DEMBELE, C, SCOTLAND PERFORMANCE INSTITUTE, 2016: The desperate need for a true five-man that can score with his back to the basket is clearly evident this time of the year. On Saturday, Cheickna Dembele escaped out of the woodworks and showed major flashes of what he can be down the road. With a very long body and a physique that could put on several more pounds before even hitting the college realm, the upside is in place with the Mali native. Having come over to the United States at the beginning of the school year, Dembele runs the floor well from rim to rim and changes shots well at the basket. Where he impressed the most was in his poise on the low block. The SPI star has a go-to hook over his left shoulder and makes good checks off the entry catch. Due to his polished counters moves with his back to the basket and precise touch, it would seem that Dembele is one of the better back to the rim guys still available late in the year, hence his first high-major offer coming from Iowa State following his outing in Rhode Island. www.hoopseen.com/index.php/news/headlines/item/4177-npsi-day-three-cheickna-dembele-becomes-more-than-a-name____ Dembele wasn’t someone that needed to be taught how to shoot a ball or dribble like most of the big men from Africa that come to American to play basketball. He can stand out from 17 feet and knockdown jumpers all day long. With a pure stroke, he has the ability to hit from behind the 3-point line as well. Don’t be fooled into thinking that Dembele is just a skilled big man. As the 6’10 center has added 25 pounds (210 when arrived but 235 now), he is capable of drop stepping and dunking on a helpless defender in the post as well. His post moves definitely aren’t finished products yet but he has been learning several that he now uses with regularity, such as an up and under move. His season averages of 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game, not to mention knocking down 80% of his free throws, are an indication of what Dembele is capable of on the court on a nightly basis. The thought that this big man will only continue to get better and better has college and NBA scouts drooling. www.nextuprecruits.com/news_article/show/610061?referrer_id=1943996_____________ Where the Scotland Performance Institute big man really impresses is with his back to the basket. He definitely is mobile enough in producing in the open floor as he exchanges ends of the floor with a purpose, yet his production in the low post is impressive. The SPI star can convert over his left shoulder with a go-to righty hook and has solid counter moves whenever the defense covers his first move on the attack. Throw in the fact that Dembele can turn and face his man off the catch and nail the mid-range jump shot, makes nearly 80-percent of his foul shots at the charity stripe, and can rebound the ball in and out of his area while acting as a solid secondary line defender, and the upside and value with the senior is immense. On Saturday, the hard-nosed and energy giving center picked up his first high-major offer, this one coming from Iowa State. The Cyclones joined St. Joe’s in full pursuit of him while Missouri and LaSalle have followed suit this week in dishing out an offer of their own to him. On Wednesday evening, Charlotte head coach Mark Price was in the gym, along with NC State for the polished center, where both followed up with offers at the conclusion of his outing hoopseen.com/index.php/news/headlines/item/4188-things-heat-up-with-cheickna-dembele_____________

The great majority of the fan base realizes the program needs to add another ball handler for next season.. I'm not confident at all in them landing a 5th year guy so I'm hoping the staff starts beating the bushes for leftover 2016 kids.. Lead guard types like Dmitrik Trice or Leland Green or Godwin Bohean.. Combo types like Eron Gordon or Marcus Ottey.. There's also Alpha Diallo & Deshawn Corprew but they're longer shots bottom line is kick the tires on anyone at this point.. If folks want explosiveness check out Ottey.. He has offers from schools like VCU, DePaul, Wichita State and interest from some P5 schools too.. www.hoopseen.com/index.php/news/headlines/itemlist/tag/Marcus%20Ottey

I hope we haven't moved on from 2016 (outside of the guys we were already on). For a lot of kids the light turns on late in their HS career and they learn to work hard. Nothing better then a HS student that has just learned how to work hard and the success that comes from it.

Rakocevic recruiting: St. Joseph’s Nick Rakocevic enters the stretch run of his senior year, a season in which the 6-11 big man has been at times dominating while showing consistent production. As the top uncommitted prospect in the senior class, Rakocevic’s recruitment will only continue to pick up steam. Rakocevic has taken just one official visit –– to West Virginia last fall –– so he will have four official visits available if he chooses following the season. As this process plays out, narrowing the lengthy list down could be tricky. Miami-Florida, USC and Arizona State have been in constant hot pursuit, with a surplus of others now getting involved in some capacity. Now it’s a matter of which of those other schools –– Rakocevic is hearing from North Carolina, South Carolina, Auburn, Louisville, Oklahoma, Cal and Providence –– will join the race and be in the mix to the end. suntimeshighschoolsports.com/2016/02/17/henricksen-notebook-filled-news-notes-thoughts/

But the overwhelming demand to get to another 5-9 point guard, senior Mike Smith, has Malnati considering keeping his practices closed after Smith's tremendous recent run that included a 38-point performance in an upset of Simeon and a 34-point outburst in a victory against Riverside-Brookfield later that week. "I was talking to Ping (legendary St. Joseph coach Gene Pingatore) the other day and he doesn't let college coaches into practice," Malnati said. "It is a distraction. It hasn't come to that yet, but there might be a time here when it does." A top student, Smith has said for months that he is leaning toward the Ivy League, and Malnati said Dartmouth and Columbia are the leaders if he goes that route. But Smith has also kept his options open, and the first of what could be several high-major schools — Vanderbilt — is now recruiting him, along with numerous mid-majors. Malnati said Vanderbilt, which has come to see Smith play but has yet to offer, would be a great fit because of it's mix of high-level basketball and strong academics. No Big Ten schools have inquired yet, but Malnati would not be surprised to see some come around, especially if Fenwick makes a deep postseason run, because "everyone hates their point guard this time of year." www.chicagotribune.com/sports/highschool/ct-spt-0205-prep-bbk-recruiting-notebook-20160204-story.html
