They should have milkshakes with the Russian mens hockey team And the US men... The U.S. men played a really good game. They shouldn't be ashamed of that performance versus a stacked Canadian team in the least.

Not sure they played a really good game but partially that's because they had looked so great in the 4 previous games. No shame in losing to Canada for sure though. It showed today which team had been facing teams who in previous games were playing 100% defence and playing not to lose. Those games are hard to win and people read too much into the goal difs as US were facing teams that were not holding everyone back around the goal. Canada's close wins were better prep than our clinics over Slovakia and Slovenia and Czech Rep.

Canada is the best team in the world and that was apparent today -- and through most of the tournament -- with their creativity, speed, skill and physicality. Or you coulda just taken a look at the rosters to figure that out. U.S. definitely played about as well as I thought they could have by creating enough scoring chances to give themselves a decent shot at winning. Never thought this would be the type of game where we dominated the puck-- even on our best day. If you had told me beforehand we'd only allow one goal I would have taken that in a heartbeat.

Off hockey but on the Olympics. Bob Costas please shut the hell up.
He is absolutely insufferable. I do not ever want or need political commentary from this self-important little dwarf.
It is bad enough that he acts like he invented baseball, now I get his geopolitical opinions as well.
For the love of God, introduce the next event and shut your yap.

I found these Olympics overall to be pretty much insufferable.
I got enjoyment out of two events: hockey and curling. Mainly because these events are shown largely uninterrupted.
Every other event was just ridiculous and I could barely watch.
Never mind the fact that on the flagship station, NBC's coverage was littered with commercials. Add to that the fact that with the injection of all of their "human interest" stories, you averaged about 15 minutes of actual athletic competition per hour.
Now, don't get me wrong. I think it's nice to hear more about the athletes who are competing. But these stories have become so completely forced and cloying, they are impossible to stomach.
Also, I am as nationalistic and patriotic as anyone, but we really don't need to check in on the dead-last running Americans every two minutes in a cross-country ski race. (Al Trautwig: "Last we checked, the Americans were running a full minute behind the leaders. How are they doing now, Chad?" On-course reporter: "Uhh, they're falling further behind, Al. A minute-thirty now." Al Trautwig: "OK, not great. We'll check back soon.")
I won't bring up the "judged sports." Which aren't really sports at all, even though they are exhibitions of outstanding athleticism and (usually) grace.
Finally, Canadians have become just insufferable in general. When are we invading America Junior?

Why would we want to take on all that snow and more people used to socialized medicine?
No thanks.
Build the damn pipeline and leave them alone up north.

Agreed. Why should Lower Canada Community College and its students be subject to American law?

Or is that Ontario Community College? I confuse the two.

Actually, the American in the 50K XC ski race was in the top five for about 45K. The trouble was about 28 were still in the race at that point. The American finished 26th, but we had our hopes.

Right. Last day. Homecourt ad to the Russians, who swept the medal in that race.

The good news is that we had a Georgetown alum at the Winter Olympics. It all goes "downhill" from there..... Deadspin

I know this is low hanging fruit, but curling simply is not a sport, it is a drinking game less deserving of a slot in the Olympics than darts or billiards. Just because something takes some skill doesn't mean it is sport. It kills me how seriously those people take their shuffleboard.

Just because something takes some skill doesn't mean it is sport. It kills me how seriously those people take their shuffleboard. Yeah, I can go along with that. I enjoy watching curling every four years (and let's be honest, some of the women's teams are pretty easy on the eyes ---coughGreatBritaincough ---), but frankly, I think I am in better shape than the U.S. men's skipper. And I should never be compared favorably to an Olympic "athlete." Still, I'd much rather watch that than figure skating or some of this X games nonsense, where the "scores" seem to be often made up out of whole cloth.
