Hop might break the double-double drought today. Good for him. He would be odds on to be the one to do it.

Play him. If he isn't hurt or academically in trouble. He'll get better as he plays. Much better.

At this point, why not give him 7 minutes a game. If Moses doesn't come back next year, we're relying on Hopkins and Hayes to play 40 minutes at the 5. Might as well take the gamble and see if something clicks for him.

We have such a tiny margin of error we cannot afford to have him learn in games as opposed to practice. As always he will play when he earns it. Period.

I'm all for "earning" what you get. I just think some young people need to be motivated; some programs set a tone of expectation and put players in position to reach that level of expectation; and then, some coaches wait for others to be motivated

I recall Ben "Ski Cap head" Gillery getting minutes a long time ago. Hayes can't be too much worse

This is also very dependent on what the situation is with Moses (maybe a decision has already been made in which case Moses arguably needs the minutes more than Hayes) and with Bradley. Also, at what point do you call the season a wash? I don't think the staff or the players have given up hope yet (clearly I have no basis for that statement). IF that is the case, you play the best prepared players that have earned those minutes already.

It's not rocket science. If he can protect the paint and the rim, then put him in to spell Moses and Hops for 5 minutes. It will help with their recent foul troubles. Of course, keep it simple as possible. Don't let Hayes go to the perimeter.

lol right, don't let him do that. that's what he tries to do (even blocking shots on the perimeter). the instruction he could be given is so simple. on offense, set picks for the guards and roll to the basket work for offensive rebounds and tap out the ones you can't secure; on defense stay around the lane, box out SOMEBODY and rebound; focus on weak side shot blocking right now; get in peoples way, don't try to block everything and get fouls... things along those lines...tell him what you need, tell him how important he is to the team getting to where they want to go and then see what he does

I recall Ben "Ski Cap head" Gillery getting minutes a long time ago. Hayes can't be too much worse Ben Gillery wasn't the most gifted center but he always played hard and averaged eight minutes a game in 52 games over two seasons. In a season and half, Hayes has averaged just 1.5 minutes a game in just 17 games. A better comparison than Gillery would be to Pascal Fleury (1990-92), the 7-2 center who scored just seven points in two seasons as a deep backup to names like Mourning and Mutombo.

As usual I will defer to DFW on details. However, my basic point remains the same. Hayes needs to get some minutes the rest of the way if only to see what we have.

Play him. If he isn't hurt or academically in trouble. He'll get better as he plays. Much better. There are plenty of guys who have gotten time and not improved a ton (Benimon, Hopkins to some extent) and Hayes hasn't shown anything indicating he will make a jump. I haven't given up on this season but if it gets to that point then I do think playing Hayes makes sense.

Add Moses to the list of players who have gotten time but not improved.. In BE play so far he's averaging 17.7 mpg, 3.1 ppg, 4.3 rpg & 1.2 blocks..
Why would it be such a shame to take some of his time away to let Hayes swim in the deep end? It's not like Moses brings a lot of intangibles to the team.

Bradley Hayes is in a deep doghouse...
Bigs in the beginning of the season: 1. Josh Smith 2. Hopper 3. Lubick 4. Moses
Now even with Josh Smith out of the rotation and we are on a losing streak...Bradley Hayes, still cannot get minutes...go figure??

I say play him. He's young, he's athletic, and he's got upside. You think other teams haven't already scouted everything we're bringing in the front court sans-Smith?

I'd rather wait until the next 3 games are over...if we can somehow steal 2 out of the 3, our season may not yet be over. Hayes does need to get minutes though before BE play is over and especially if we tank the next few games.

Or at least give this guy some run... Ooops! I think u are touching a sore spot...Brandon Bolden left because: 1. Due to lack of PT 2. JTIII recruited Josh Smith over him, Bolden saw the writing on the wall; he is probably laughing right now at the situation 3. If Bradley Hayes does not play this year, it is a 50/50 shot that he will be back next year 4. For a player who goes to class and does his work to be eligible, I wonder how he feels about seeing Josh Smith practicing and given the starting Center position again for next year?
