This is a GREAT reason to come to GU! Wow, don't know if the young man will choose Georgetown, but I am VERY impressed with his choices so far.

Don't think we are going to have to worry about mr. bacon making an unofficial visit or two.

Put me in the Bacon camp. I think he has the potential to transition to PG. He already has plus handle for a 2 guard and 6'6 at either position is great. Seems to have good vision and the ability to be a crafty passer once he gets into the lane. Has the length to make a defensive impact at the top of the key as well......I really hope this kid doesn't break up with his GF for another couple of years...

We'd be fine....even without a traditional big. Instead, we'd be long, skilled, super athletic and go with 3 forwards. Our first 7 guys would be:
Copeland 6'9' Derrickson 6'8" White 6'8 Bacon 6'6' Peak 6'4" Campbell 6'4" DSR 6'3"
Think we'd be more than fine on the boards, shot blocking and defending the post.

I suppose. Though I'm not sure a team mostly of freshman would be any good at defense even before you start putting skinny or short ones at power positions. But with the talent base of the class of '14 coming in, the goal should be a National Title in there. Put a real shotblocking big in there and there aren't any forseeable holes on that team. If someone was 6'9" and a Joey Dorsey-type, we could get by. But they are either very skinny (Copeland, White) or lack the explosion of a Dorsey (Derrickson -- Dorsey was insane). The Freeman-Wright-Monroe era was plagued by putting incomplete teams out there. I just don't want to see it. (BTW, I wasn't saying don't take Bacon or recruit any old stiff or anything like that -- just that the '14/'15 classes have one glaring hole so far -- one that is compounded by the fact that Hayes is the only big on the roster that even COULD be here when Derrickson arrives.)

I really think one could argue that as far as a starting lineup goes, the Freeman-Wright-Clark-Vaughn-Monroe team was one of the most talented we have. The 2010 team was really excellent, and it is forgotten because of the Ohio debacle. That was a really good team, though, and one that probably could have gotten pretty far in the post-season had things happened differently. That starting lineup had 4 legitimate shooting threats. We haven't had that many serious threats to score in one lineup since then.

We haven't had that many serious threats to score in one lineup since then. That was one of our worst defensive teams, primarily crippled by having a big man rotation of Monroe, an outmatched Julian Vaughn, a pre-effort Henry Sims and Jerelle Benimon? Hollis? It had a decent amount of offensive talent but went only 10-8 in the Big East (though, yes, Austin's diagnosis hurt the team), salvaging a pretty uneven season with a nice run in the BE tourney. But the team couldn't defend the rim at all and couldn't rebound -- it was 10th in offense and 61st in defense -- the worst D since Thompson's first year. As far as starting lineups go, Wallace-Sapp-Summers-Green-Hibbert was clearly more talented and a bit more experienced, but that team also had a ton more depth down low in Macklin and Ewing, Jr. A very common route to the Final Four -- though not the only one -- is NBA talent in the frontcourt. The '14 class is already likely to have very few upper classmen while the class is intact unless he get lucky; let's not saddle them with no size, either.

Does anybody know if Bacon is a re-class? I was on his DraftExpress page last night and if the info is correct he would be a 20yr old Freshman if he stayed in his current class.
No biggie either way just curious...

Everything you say is true, but of course the '15 class is far from complete. We're on a lot of good bigs, and hopefully we'll get one (or more) of them to commit. Is Tre really 6'4"? For some reason, I thought he was short, like 6'0". Am I off base here?

For some reason, I thought he was short, like 6'0". Am I off base here? I saw that too, not sure if Tre is a legit 6'4" but he is a guard that looks to find others off the bounce. The Princetown offense does not operate well with shoot first guards and when you need to slow it down, you need a true commander on the floor. I, for one, am excited to see Tre join the team and hope he stays all 4 years because he has shown potential to not only distribute but score as well.
