1. Why didn't you shut down the thread after CSW made disparaging remarks about Cardinal Burke?
Moderator Note: This and the 8 posts below were moved from the Pilarz thread as they were way off topic.
Pertinax: Your points re #2 have been edited as a violation of HoyaTalk's terms of service. See your inbox for more details.--Admin

1. Why didn't you shut down the thread after CSW made disparaging remarks about Cardinal Burke? Pertinax: you're going off topic in this thread. I'll address your question though: To be specific, I edited your personal attack on CWS (another board participant) in the other thread. This is against board rules, which you appear to have either read and ignored or not read at all. The site Admin subsequently shut the thread down, I did not. For your re-edification, here is a handy link to those rules. Second, I'll not directly respond to your infantile attempt to nyah, nyah, nyah me. Third, and I've pointed this out to you in the past, I post my personal opinions just like any other poster. Those are quite distinct from my actions/posts as a moderator. When a poster directly insults another poster, you're damn right I'll take action as a moderator.

To Dan Mq: The following excerpt from CWS's remarks about Cardinal Burke, while not directly using pejorative terms, is to anyone with eyes to see what might be accurately described as a subtler wielding of the knife, i.e., the "bitchy" method of accomplishing the same end:
"In Rome, where he is now prefect of the church’s tribunal, he has also earned a reputation for operatic regalia. He is one of the few cardinals who dons cappa magnas, the long trains of watered silk that can look like scarlet lava flowing down from his throne. His velvet gloves and extravagant brocades prompted Vatican officials to ask him to “tone it down a bit.”

His velvet gloves and extravagant brocades prompted Vatican officials to ask him to “tone it down a bit.” Here's the distinction: CWS was posting about a public figure, not a Hoyatalk poster. We don't censor free speech here unless it is a direct attack on other Hoyatalk posters. Once again, this is off topic and has zero to do with Fr. Pilarz. If you'd like to discuss Cardinal Burke, start a thread on the Blue & Gray board. Any further posts about it in this thread will be deleted. Clear enough? P.S. - font color changed so you will know this is a moderator post. And now, my own thoughts: the part you quoted from CWS' post is not something CWS wrote, it is a quote taken from the article he linked written by religion reporter David Gibson. Did you not read CWS' comments below it clarifying what he meant in regard to Cardinal Burke? Recently we had cupcakes with icing sprinkled with chopped up bacon at Wolfington Hall, something I think deeply wrong. We've also had Black Forest cake, which is not a dessert I like. I think Cardinal Burke's vestments are "unsavory" in the latter sense: it's not my preference, but the Church is fortunately bigger and more inclusive than my preferences. It's a big tent with room for high church pageantry and low church simplicity.

Sorry, Dan, for creating tension. I'm not sure what people read me as suggesting, but this is what I was referring to: articles.washingtonpost.com/2013-03-18/world/37815480_1_vatican-benedict-xvi-vestmentsRecently we had cupcakes with icing sprinkled with chopped up bacon at Wolfington Hall, something I think deeply wrong. Moderator note: This is a quoted post by CWS that should be placed 2 posts above where it is, i.e., right before the pertinax post beginning with "To Dan Mq" ... unfortunately the board software won't allow me to place it there.

Bacon in cupcakes is just unnatural. It's like ketchup on hot dogs.

VooDoo Donut in Portland makes a mighty fine maple bacon donut.

I can see maple bacon donuts - at least bacon and donuts are part of the same meal. Bacon and cupcakes just doesn't seem right though - and hot dogs and ketchup, well, I'm sure Cardinal Burke could do a homily on the unholy union of hot dogs and ketchup.

The fiends won't serve it for lunch. If the government isn't going to get involved in this situation, what's the point?

Look, if Obamacare doesn't include a Luther mandate, we should impeach him. Or at least talk about it on the Senate floor for a long time.

How can I obey the mandate when they won't serve me the damn sandwich? WHY WON'T THE MARKET RESPOND? It's like un-tyranny.
