No more projects. We need someone ready to come in and contribute immediately.

We can always hope that Hopkins has the same leap that Henry did. His defense is better but his fouls render him a big question mark in gameplanning. Not certain what the coach can do, when he cannot be certain if Hopkins can make it 20 minutes in the game. Moses has simply not progressed and on defense and rebounding has actually appeared to regress lately. Hayes has barely played and no one should count on Smith coming back or the condition in which he will arrive.

Mikael has not improved on offense since his freshman year, and it would be more of a prayer than a hope that Hop will make a significant leap at this point.

I hate to be repetitive about this but the program needs bigs in the worst way, the time for pickiness has passed imo.. There's a pretty good chance the bigs next year will be Hopkins, Moses & Hayes.. Not a good look at all..

Hard to accept that the Hoyas with a storied history of quality bigs are looking so depleted at the position now and in the immediate future. You can mask some defensive shortcomings by playing a variety of defenses, but right now we are getting zero production out of the 5 position in every phase of the game. Lubick is not a 5 so I do not count him. Hopkins is so athletic and I have not wanted to give up on him all year, but how many times can he fail to finish around the basket, commit the "dumb" foul or fail to corral a rebound before you just start to think he is not suited for that role. As for Moses, who knows what to think. He has seemingly not made any progress over the time on the hilltop. Those who are banking on Smith making the difference next year are simply desperate. The kid has not shown the discipline on or off the court to justify such expectations.

The results cannot be worse than what we get from Moses. JT3 should try a Nikita/Summers type of benching with Hayes and Moses. Like JT3 had Nikita play for Summers when DS was pouting and not giving it 100%, let's see some Hayes for Moses. If it doesn't work, have a sit down like with Nikita and part ways.

basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=16116782014 Bakary Konate, 6-11 & 205lbs. Plays at Sunrise Christian..
"The adjustment from playing in Europe to playing here is a different game," Coach Barnwell stated. "It's much more physical. Bakary has gotten stronger and the last few weeks he has got so much better.
"Bakary goes against a kid that is signed to go to Ole Miss every day (Rauno Nurger) who is a 6-foot-10 kid from Estonia so Bakary has his hands full every day. He has gotten better in terms of being able to score on the block a little bit more and defensively he has figured out how to guard in help position.
"Offensively he is such a good shooter and that is the part of his game that will translate next year."G'town isn't on him but he's another 5 type that starting to get high major offers.. No stone unturned imo..

No idea about Konate but things are getting tight on bigs. Not really sure why III hasn't recruited 2014 centers more aggressively. Maybe he has and we're not hearing about it.
Even if III thinks Smith will be available next year, we have no reliable future depth at the position. It will be interesting to see if we do try to grab a spring signee/transfer or if we just hope we can land a 2015 guy that can play right away.

Even if he does return, but everyone here know's he's unreliable. I'll give a right comanche to go with derrickson, dickerson.

I agree, I'm wondering what the staff's plan is for the center position next year and beyond. It seems after losing out on Elbert, they made last-minute tries for Welsh and Onuaku. And it appears they are on De la Rosa, but no signs of being on other bigs for 2014. It's been two years in a row with below average production for our bigs; I don't want to make it three years in a row...

Here's another big whose recruitment is picking up.. I mentioned him earlier in the thread.. Zach Haney 6-10 235 PF/C in 2014.. He's a 3 star on Scout but not rated by Rivals or Espn.. The kid has a face up game, he's shooting 43% from 3 while averaging 15 ppg, 8 boards & 2 blocks for his HS team. He plays with Joe Burton who's headed to Ok. State next year. Haney is starting to get looks from Pitt(what a surprise! Dixon is always out there), Oklahoma, Oregon State, VTech ect.. This team needs bigs and the staff should be out there looking for a kid who fits.. No more kids with limited to zero offensive games!! Recruit to the system without fail...Here's a small clip of him in action.. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1610151Texas Hoops Analysis: ZACH is a long thin inside-out player that has a nice touch on his outside shot. He plays inside and rebounds, alters/blocks shots, uses his length to score over players, he has shown explosive moves under the basket. He needs to add strength to truly compete at the next level, but has the length, skill, and versatility.

At this point, if he can make a shot from the FT line if left wide open, offer him.

basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1612953Ruben Guerrero, 6-foot-10 230LB C/PF, Bel Aire (Kan.) Sunrise Christian -- A product of Spain, the 6-foot-10 Guerrero is one of many available big men in the Sunrise high school and prep programs. Anchoring the high school team, Guerrero has proven to be a fluid and mobile big who can score from the rim out to 12 feet. He needs more strength, but the fact that he isn't totally raw offensively really helps. It's interesting to note that Ole Miss pulled two players out of Sunrise last year including Guerrero's countryman Sebastian Saiz. Others involved include Indiana, Marquette, Miami and many more. - See more at: basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1612953#sthash.ciLt2vD7.dpufHere's another 5 type player who's available & has offensive skills.. Other write ups on him says he's a good rebounder and very fluid..

We need a damn center that can stay in the game and not foul.
