Am thinking about taking my 12 year old son to this tournament since we had such a great time in NYC @ Barclays Center last year. Having not been to Puerto Rico before I am wondering if anyone has any particular hotel suggestions or know in advance what hotel the team would be using? I see on the PR website that tickets go on sale August 1st for $100 for a full session pass, seems pretty reasonable to me!
Any and all help would be appreciated!

One of the sponsors of the Tip-Off is the Hotel Condado Plaza Resort & Casino. I'm guessing the team will stay there. If you want to stay there, please call the hotel to see if rooms are still available. If it's booked, let me know for more suggestions.

Thanks PR, plenty of rooms available at that hotel, just wondering if it is going to be a gong show there or not!
Anyone else planning on going?

Pls let me know what you're looking for in a hotel and I can make suggestions. I thought it would be fun for your 12-yr old (and for you) to be where the team is.

GU to play Charlotte in the first round. In the way to early to look ahead department, 2nd game would be vs Kansas St. or Northeastern.

Whether we win or lose, we will play either Kansas St. or Northeastern. It just depends whether it will be on the winners side of the bracket or the losers. (At least, that's my understanding of this bonkers-looking bracket: assets.espn.go.com/pdf/2013/0715/puerto_rico_tipoff.pdf.)

Wait, this tournament is not Thanksgiving weekend, but the weekend before? I did not realize that. Watching games at 12:30 on a regular Thursday and 2:30 (hopefully) on a regular Friday ain't gonna be easy.

I thought it was an NCAA rule that only one team per conference could play in these types of tournaments, yet both Charlotte and VCU are in the A-10. How is that permissible?

This is misleading I think. 4 of the 6 writers have us making the title game, and I think picking VCU over us is a reasonable pick. The fact is we are an unproven team at this point (even if we had Whittington, though losing him makes it worse). We do have a history of stepping it up, and I'm confident we will do that, but I also think we are a team with a lot of weaknesses, especially without Josh Smith playing. We certainly have a fair shot at winning this tournament but on paper, I don't think we look as strong as many of us might think.

It's going to be important for the Big East to show well in these preseason tournaments. Unfortunately, in two of the tournaments we have two teams each: Wooden Legacy Marquette and Creighton and Battle For Atlantis Villanova and Xavier. Then we have Butler in the Old Spice. Depaul in the CBE . St. John's in the Barclay's Center Classic, Seton Hall in Coaches vs. Cancer and Providence in Paradise Jam. So all 10 teams are in a tournament.
