Swing and a miss, strike two for Casual Hoya in its attempt to be a recruiting insider. Uh huh. Happy to eat crow on this one.

Some of you young uns might be too young to remember Green on the hilltop, but White is definitely in the same mold. I think he will even have a better cast of characters to make string music with. Can't wait!

Kudos to new Hoya assistant coach Tavaras Hardy, who arrived earlier this summer from Northwestern with a reputation as an excellent recruiter. Does anyone know if Hardy also had a hand in LJ Peak's recruitment? Peak spent last year in Chicago before returning to his home state of SC this year. While in Chicago, he was a HS teammate of White. Other HS teammates who came to GU come to mind and all had very postive inmpacts at GU. The first ones I'm aware of were THREE kids who came with Pops from St. Anthony's in JT's first year at GU. Merlin Wilson, Jonathan Smith and Greg Brooks. They were the foundation of the the remarkable transformation of Hoya Hoops that started with the '72/'73 season and continues to this day. Another more recent pairing was Brandon Bowman and Ashanti Cook, who were HS teammates who had a pretty good run at GU and were key players in our first Sweet Sixteen of the JT3 era in 2006. I can think of two other pairs of HS star teammates who became Hoyas and enjoyed great success. Not sure which pair to rate higher. Arriving as freshmen for the '76/'77 season were two of the top ten Hoyas of all time - Johnny (Ba Ba) Duren, and Craig (Big Sky) Shelton, both first team Wash DC all metro players, both from Dunbar of DC, and both went on to receive All American honors. They led GU to it's first Elite 8 appearance, a narrow loss to Iowa in 1980 just missing our first Final Four since 1942. There may be more, but the other pair of HS teammates I recall were also two of the greatest Hoyas of all time. David Wingate arrived as a freshman on the '82/'83 team, and for the '83/'84 team his Dunbar-Baltimore teammate Reggie Williams signed on. All these guys did was play key roles on two Final Four teams, including the '84 Championship team. Reggie was a first team AA and was chosen #4 in the NBA draft. Both guys had long NBA careers. Not suggesting White and Peak will come close to the guys mentioned above, but they are following in a long, storied and VERY successful Hoya tradition! Welcome to both guys and their amazing teammates, Copeland and Campbell and... maybe one more! Hoya Saxa!!

Following on Sir Saxa's post, there have been other teammate pairs, but technically this won't count as Daryl Peak will have graduated from Gaffney SC and not Whitney Young.
Anyway, since Duren and Shelton:
Charles Smith and Bobby Winston (Washington DC/All Saints HS '85) Jameel Watkins and Shamel Jones (New York NY/Paul Robeson HS '96) Tony Bethel and Drew Hall (Rockville, MD/Montrose Christian Acad. '01) Brandon Bowman and Ashanti Cook (Los Angeles, CA/Westchester HS '02)

Looks like that Harlem Shake video was done by Abe Froman's grandson. Would he be the sausage prince?

But his accomplishment in bringing White to Hilltop is definitely even greater. Just as big of an accomplishment as bringing in Otto IMO

This is awesome news. Those pink uniforms are, uh, interesting. This is beyond awesome news. In the midst of all the uncertainty with a basketball only conference.....we secure a recruiting class that should put us at the forefront of college hoops for the foreseeable future. All of a sudden, in 2014 we are looking at a team led by Hop, Cameron, Whittington, Copeland, White, Jabril, DSR and others. Squad!!

247 Currently has our class as the 4th best in the land. 247sports.com/Season/2014-Basketball/CompositeTeamRankings That being said the heavy hitters (Kentucky, Duke, Kansas) have not really signed anyone yet and look to pull in monster classes, but still a good chance we stay top 10, but it is still early.
