Per Jeff Goodman Georgetown hired Northwestern assistant Tavaras Hardy earlier -- and JT3 will also bring GW's Kevin Sutton on staff -- per source. Nice. Kevin Sutton's job description on Twitter already confirms this and refers to his gig as "assistant men's basketball coach." Will be interesting to see if that is an official title or just his de facto role.

What do we know about Sutton? Another recruiter?

When the assistant opening came up, I didn't even think Sutton was a viable candidate since I figured the next step for him was a head coaching gig somewhere, and I actually thought he might end up back at Montrose once that job opened up. However, he's a really good get for the program and will aid tremendously not only on the recruiting trail but as a coach as well.
Don't know that much about Hardy, but from everything I've read/heard about him today, seems like a good choice. Will help us gain a presence in Chicago and it will be infinitely easier to recruit here than it was at Northwestern.
Two really good hires by JTIII. When all of this shakes out and we end up with Broadus, Hardy and Sutton as assistants, that's a strong trio and I expect results on the recruiting trail.

Sounds like we'll have one coach too many...hmmm. Not making inferences to anything, just saying.

Sutton may just end up taking the DOBO position.
Even still, strong hire for that position.

Is Hardy a Princeton system coach? I know Northwestern runs (or at least used to) the system

Is Hardy a Princeton system coach? I know Northwestern runs (or at least used to) the system He played two years for Bill Carmody (former Princeton head coach) and coached under him. so he knows the Princeton. He's supposed to be a good recruiter, so he covers both bases

JT III followed Carmody at Princeton; when Carmody got flushed at Northwestern, and Hardy got nervous about his new role, I suspect it was a logical connection. At the end of the day Collins is going to bring in his own guy - maybe not for a year, but eventually - so it makes sense Hardy jumps to a top 25 program when he has the chance.
It's not just the Hoyas visiting DePaul, of course. All three current additions to the Big East are from the Midwest - Xavier, Butler and Creighton - and Butler has been called "every Big Ten fan's second favorite basketball team" - the Hoyas will be seen a lot in the Midwest.

They say that change can be good, and hiring two new staff might work out. Let's see how it turns out, hopefilly positive for the team.

Hardy was passed over for the #1 job at NW so, writing on the wall, it was time to move on even though he initially agreed to stick around.
As part of the Pete Caril coaching tree, he's a good fit for JT3. If you like the Princeton and the 70% winning percentage 3 has achieved at GU, you'll think this is a good hire.
Secondly, the guy is said to be an excellent recruiter. Well, now he has a much better story to sell to his recruiting contacts - kids, HS coaches and AAU coaches. Going from NW to a legit, annual, national power in GU is a HUGE step up. Let's hope he can deliver a top level kid soon.
I see this as part of a pattern. JT3 went to bat with the Admin to get serious $$ for Robert Kirby, and it paid off with Otto Porter among others. JT3 also went to bat to bring Broadus back, despite the black eye he suffered at Binghamton. Now he's gone out to get TWO MORE guys who are said to be outstanding recruiters. As many on this board have posted, recruiting is the name of the game. It isn't enough all by itself, but it sure makes Coach's goals a lot more achievable.
JT3 has had some excellent kids, but he needs to get more - and have them on campus simultaneously. These latest coaching hires give me even more confidence in the future of Hoya Hoops. Now just get that IAC built!
