We haven't done this in a while, but now that I am retired and while I am looking for something significant to do (volunteer track coach?), I thought I would add to this pet peeves thread. Other than our president, my current pet peeve is the Organic label on foods. As a chemist this galls me, because organic signifies something like benzene and toluene and pesticides, etc., which are all brought to us through organic chemistry. I would be happier with a Non-organic label on foods. So there!

Volunteering is excellent if you can find something that is meaningful to you. Volunteer track coach sounds great for you. Organic is a marketing tool! And it's working. My pet peeve and not particularly original is too loud restaurants and/or too dim restaurants -- yes, I'm an old fart! And still visiting DC for every Hoya game I am constantly amazed when one of the Metro escalators is out of service, which is often, the descending escalator is the one running!!! Why can't or won't the station manager reverse it!!!

SS, you don't like having everyone viewing their menus with the flashlight apps on their phones? How dare you!

I just thought of another pet peeve. Social Media! I think UNsocial media would be a better name. While engaging in my morning exercise (racewalking) I come across people out walking, and I try to say "good morning" to each and most of them acknowledge my greeting, but some are involved in "social media activities" on their smart phone. Probably looking at their facebook account and don't even look up from their phone when I send my greetings.

I'm sure people find positives in it for their lives outside of self-promotion but there are huge negatives too. As an uncle to two young-ish nephews, some of the stories I've heard about 24 hour harassment/bullying of kids that aren't "cool" are horrifying. At least when I was a kid, if you were having problems with kids at school, you could get away from them after the last bell or after sports/activities. Kids today don't have that luxury.
