Wait, their Director of Basketball Operations resigned in December without another job? I don't think that's a very common thing to happen during a season.

So now the story is they have stopped investigating the sexual assault and are focused on academic issues with Fab Melo. That throw a dart comment is starting to look accurate.

You guys got it all wrong. The NCAA is clearly upset that a current player's name was used to sell t-shirts. SU's Dept. of Athletic Compliance did an admirable job of nipping it in the bud, but it may have been too little too late for such a serious infraction.

The irony of the source makes it no less awesome. Here's hoping for the happiest of endings:

some live updates are being posted here: www.syracuse.com/orangebasketball/index.ssf/2013/03/ncaa_tournament_news_conferenc.htmlit is the regular NCAA pre-game presser. he seems to have blown off the few questions about today's reports. [edit] relevant tweets: Syracuse Basketball @psbasketball 16m Boeheim on whether he's concerned about the NCAA: I can't comment about something that's just talk. Syracuse Basketball @psbasketball 16m Boeheim asked about the timing of the NCAA story: It doesn't bother me. Not at all. We're concerned about playing Montana. Syracuse Basketball @psbasketball 21m Boeheim compared this story to last year's loss of Fab Melo. He said losing Melo was completely different. More than a distraction. Syracuse Basketball @psbasketball 22m NCAA moderator tried to stop this line of questioning, but Boeheim said we could ask. He just might not answer. Syracuse Basketball @psbasketball 22m Boeheim on the players' approach: I doubt seriously if they even know about it. Syracuse Basketball @psbasketball 23m Finally a question about the big story: It's the same story they had last year. [edit2] and always nice when your beat reporter feels the need to end this way: Syracuse Basketball @psbasketball 6m The Syracuse press conference ended with no big statements and no blowups. The Syracuse open practice will begin in a few minutes.

ESPN does have an article up on their site about it, on the NCAAM page, but its not very prominent to be sure. As for the presser, have no fear. If there are any fireworks at all, even if the Worldwide Leader chooses to turn a blind eye, places like Deadspin will not.

Amazing how Southerland went from a 1.0 GPA to eligible in a week. Not surprising. His first clay mug had no handle. His mid-term clay mug had both a handle and a pourer spout. Strangely, it looked to be crafted by someone with much smaller hands.

there have been rumors the last few months up here that something was happening soon with the ncaa. this has been a long time coming. when visiting friends there during my college days i would see coleman and owens in a different new suv every time we went out. they openly told people they got any car they wanted from bill rapp.

Syracuse has a dirty program. In other breaking news, the sun rises in the East.

More details: An NCAA investigator was in Central New York in August questioning at least one former SU professor about the university’s handling of a 2007 sexual assault complaint against three basketball players, the professor said. Locker’s questions focused on how SU handled the October 2007 complaint from a freshman who said she was sexually assaulted at an off-campus party by basketball players Jonny Flynn, Scoop Jardine and Rick Jackson in their freshman year, Potter said. Newton refused to comment on whether the NCAA interviewed her. But she said this about the alleged sexual assault case: “An arts and sciences student filed a complaint that was specific and credible, and that complaint did not progress in the usual way.” I assume there is more to the investigation than just this sexual assault case. Odd, because what is described here is exactly the same thing that happened with the sex assault coverup at Marquette, which received almost zero national attention. www.jsonline.com/sports/goldeneagles/124829839.html
