Wait until his beloved Orange are eating Coach K's ass for awhile. He will be longing for the days of hating GU.

This piece is as sound Thamel's Manti Te'o reporting. A professional embarrassment.
I would be very surprised if DeGioia is big-footing Scott Pilarz, for example. But let's understand that if you take the Hoyas out of the equation, everything changes for the rest of the 6. They need us and we should be the ones in control.
Somebody above said Marquette was leading everything. Where does that come from? Just because their AD can't keep his mouth shut about what's happening doesn't mean he has any power.

"Many schools in the Catholic Seven are enamored with VCU, especially because the league's bottom four teams -- Providence, DePaul, Seton Hall and St. John's -- have combined to win just one NCAA tournament game in the last 10 years."
So "many" schools out of six are enamored with VCU because four of the six are terrible? The only way this makes sense is if at least two of PC, DP, SH, SJ are thinking "we are terrible and shall remain so, let's get VCU so we can leech off their program." And saying that out loud.
Thamel = THE worst.

This article makes NO sense whatsoever. What are they complaining about exactly? The bottom few teams in the league are AWFUL and they should be happy that the schools that have actually invested in decent programs didn't boot them out and replace them with competitive teams. And they got a freaking bump in their TV deal. Good lord what a bunch of garbage.

This to me is the most ridiculous, blatantly slanted part:
"The tension resurfaced recently after a profile of DeGioia appeared in the Washington Post with the headline, "Georgetown takes lead in preserving basketball tradition of Catholic 7."
Really? You couldn't even be bothered to come up with a quote from DeGioia that backed up your assertion that we're arrogantly running the show/taking credit? The best you could do was use a headline that some headline editor came up with at 11 pm?
That's just pathetic.

The comparison of the TV deals is so unbelievably intellectually dishonest, it makes me wonder if Thamel is merely stupid or deviously misleads his readers.

Does Sports Illustrated have an ombudsman? Some of our complaints would be worth sending his way.

Agreed. Cancelling SI subscription. I will rely on CasualHoya for my Kate Upton from now on!
If he has a source for the griping about GU's "victory lap" it is probably Mick Cronin who (a) is so Editeded about losing, and (b) is the only tourney-bound program without a life boat to escape the clown car of a conference we are kicking to the curb. If it is Cronin (or anyone from Cinci that should have been reported.

Convenient how the turd left out the amount the basketball only schools were going to get from that ESPN deal. Wonder if the article got a re-write after we kicked their asses for a 2nd time last Saturday.

Calm down, folks. In trying to get the word out that Thamel is dead wrong on many of his points, be careful not to overreact and generate too much attention to the guy's article.
Yes, Thamel is a Cuse grad and probably doesn't care for Gtown. Yes, he was disingenuous regarding the money the schools "rejected" and later agreed to. Yes, he did take cheap shots at Taglibue and DeGioia. But in the end it is a small writeup that isn't likely to damage the school or the program's reputation. You folks act as if it was some major cover page feature which exposed made-up corrupt and illegal inner workings of the Georgetown Athletic Department. Stop reacting as if this is Penn State Part Two or as if this will have any way near the legs of the Bernie Fine controversy or that the NCAA will read this and come after the program ala Miami. This is nothing more than a few well-placed and at times uncalled for parting blows and frankly if this is the best Thamel can come up with than that's merely shows his desperation.
With that being said not all of what he wrote is necessarily untrue. Weren't there other reports that Gtown was dragging its feet on breaking away with the other Catholic schools?

I just posted a long comment at the bottom of the article at SI tearing Thamel's arguments apart. Cuse fans are likely to give it Dislikes, so please if possible give it a Like so it doesn't get driven off the page. Many sites yank comments that get several down votes. You can use your Facebook or Twitter accounts to vote on it at SI - you don't need to register with them.
