+1000 Staff misprioritized big time by not going after Chukwu hard. Monday-morning-recruiting. Or is it armchair recruiting? Message Board recruiting.

[Monday-morning-recruiting. Or is it armchair recruiting? Go back and read the Chukwu thread, if you think my position is Monday-morning-recruiting. It was pretty obvious in late August that Robinson would not work out in our favor. hoyatalk2.proboards.com/thread/26506/paschal-chukwu-14-verbal-providence?page=5Chukwu was the one big man in a situation that absolutely was primed for us - at a Jesuit high school, African big man, handlers averse to recruiting attention, handlers that apparently had a great deal of respect for Catholic & Jesuit schools. As much as I like what Cooley's doing and want other Big East schools to do well - we could have beaten out Providence.

Chukwu is ranked #60 after being in the country 3 years, and I saw no hats on a table announcement from him. Robinson is #50 and from all accounts the recruiting of him was totally shady. Whatever project we end up with in the Spring who ends up not playing and transferring out after a year or two is going to suck. Chukwu would have been a nice fit.

I'm sorry we missed ER if that's true, but if it is LSU that's okay since I get to see them live. #selfishpointofview.

It amazes me how sour the grapes are on this board when things don't go GU's way. Why bash the kid for committing to where he felt comfortable? Again, JTIII is a very detached personality -- GU seems to recruit based on facts and statistics, not through tapping into players emotions. Some kids liked to be wooed and like to "feel" that the coaches really wanted him on an emotional level. In the end, though, I think JTIII and staff's approach is just as good because as Markel has said, coach related to him like he was a man from when he walked on campus, and now he's become a man and he's thankful for that....
As we know, it's subjective as to what makes players feel wanted on that level and what type of coach/team he's drawn to. GU can be a fit all they want, but it comes down to intangibles as well (environment, proximity, school size, girls, ...well, sometimes $$ LOL). But to put this on $$ doesn't seem like a well thought out argument. Yes, fans could see Elbert at GU, Elbert knew that he'd develop well at GU...but it comes down to other factors. It doesn't matter if you thought he was "lazy" or blamed other people for any struggles he has; heck that's what a good coaching staff can help with. I remember last year, a certain recruit was viewed in similar terms and once he signed, it was like "GREAT job by the staff..."

Everybody cheats it’s just how much IMO. I think the frustration here amongst fans is in July Elbert was a Hoya then the AAU coach got more involved and looking at his comments he had an obvious agenda to steer Elbert away from Gtown to one of these BCS schools. If he truly cared about Elbert and his development why would he do that? None of those schools have the track record, and or can guarantee the exposure he would receive if he played here other than OSU

People also need to remember that location is key. The kid is from Texas. Gtown isn't for everybody and maybe his opinion of living in the mid-atlantic changed. I know people that didn't fit in and transferred as I think many of us did, and it was just that DC/Gtown was not the spot for him. I will reiterate that even if that perfect 5 option doesn't appear in the spring, we are still set for a great year. A freshman Elbert probably isn't the difference maker anyways as he isn't Greg Monroe and other then Greg, I can't think of a freshman 5 that was a difference maker on a championship caliber team.

Love III and his recruiting efforts, and particularly the success with '14 class. But it is still disappointing when a kid who the staff feels could help, and especially one who seems highly interested, turns us down. But yes, can't tell why some kids go elsewhere, just gotta keep moving ahead and get the next one. Maybe there's another Otto out there for the Spring!

Although I would have wanted to see him playing for us, it is what it is. The staff did all it could. Among the many guesses (I'm not sure if he's made a statement) of why he picked LSU I'll add that since he expressed his desire to be a 2&done, I'm not sure he would've received the amount of playing time that he wanted/needed as a freshman with last-year Josh, senior Hops, junior Hayes (and grad Moses?) fighting for PT at the 5.
Going back to daymond's post, I agree that by now everyone (the staff and fans) can see a pattern or a profile developing of big kids that like GU or the idea of GU, but will be dazzled by the lights/handlers/etc... at other places and will not come to GU. The dilemma is how do you know when to back off a top big if he is interested in GU? One indicator is the kids' personality; another is handlers or parents making statements for the kids; another is expectations of playing time and leaving early; etc... Finally, I agree completely with this: "I do think they need improvement on figuring out who mentally fits the program."

I imagine that most programs are disappointed and surprised when athletes choose to go elsewhere. The name Georgetown and Thompson should be enough to attract big time athletes.

What's particularly frustrating here is that we were supposedly the clear leader for Elbert during the summer. If that were true, how did we go from that position to not even being among his last four schools? If the factors mentioned in the various posts above were truly important to Elbert, why would we have been his "clear leader?" I know these situations can be fluid, and I'm not one to scream "cheat" every time we lose a prospect, but in this case, I can't help but smell a rat.
