So I was looking at all the ways we can move up next weekend and get some air in the BE race when I realized my rooting interests made me sick, but the best possible scenario for us is as follows:
Tonight: Virginia beats #3 Duke (Go Cavs!) BYU beats #2 Gonzaga (don't care either way)
Saturday: Iowa over #1 Indiana (don't know how important it is since IU lost already) Portland over #2 Gonzaga (if BYU failed to win) #3 Duke over #5 Miami (only if Virginia won, if not go Miami) #9 Michigan St over #4 Michigan (UM already lost so dont think it matters) West Virginia over #6 Kansas (threw up in my mouth a little)
#12 Syracuse over #10 Louisville (I know, I know) #21 Notre Dame over #22 Marquette (I don't feel as bad once I saw MQE fans rooting for UConn last night)
BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY IS
#7 Georgetown taking care of Rutgers!

Kansas will blast WVU. The Mounties are awful.

Yes, but any team can lose to anyone this year. Just ask Michigan. Or Kansas, for that matter (didn't they lose to TCU?)
I'm just hopeful that USF was our bad loss and we can move on from there.
I'm also not sure you want to root for Mich St over Mich. They are also a potential 1 if they win out and run through the B10, arent they? Then again, I get the impression that the only way the Big East gets one of the two B10 #1 spots is if a BE team basically runs the table.

Scenarios exist where we end up ranked #1 in the final regular season polls.

Then again, I get the impression that the only way the Big East gets one of the two B10 #1 spots is if a BE team basically runs the table. I think I agree with 'tables here. Michigan may have just played itself off the 1-seed line, unless they run the table through the tournament, as their loss at Penn State is their 5th in the last 12 games. Michigan State is more of a threat for the 1 at this point. However, I'm not so sure that the Big 10 is locked in for two 1-seeds. One, certainly, but here are the profiles and upcoming schedules for the top three contenders. (Wisconsin and Ohio State also each have an outside shot, but with RPIs outside the top 15, and 8-4 records in their last 12, not a reasonable shot, short of running the table through the conference tournament). Indiana: 24-4 (12-3) RPI 6: Iowa, OSU, @michigan Michigan: 23-5 (10-5) RPI 11: MSU, @purdue, Indiana Michigan State: 21-6 (11-4) RPI 7: @michigan, Wisconsin, Northwestern Despite the loss at Minnesota (who has a #13 RPI despite a 7-8 conference record), Indiana would need 2 and probably 3 more losses to get knocked off the one-seed line.

If we beat Rutgers on Saturday, I think it is 50/50 that we are projected a #1 seed by this Sunday, the 50/50 split between us and Kansas.
1a. Indiana (assuming beat Iowa) 1b. Gonzaga (assuming beat BYU and Portland) 1c. Duke (assuming beat UVA and Miami) 1d. Kansas/Georgetown
If any of these teams lose unexpectedly, we could be a solid #1 seed by this Sunday.
One wrinkle is that if Miami beats Duke, both Duke and Miami will probably stay ahead of us. We slide to the 2a position with Kansas.
Ultimately, if everything stays equal, I think we get the seed priority over Kansas with superior strength of conference and hopefully superior Last 10 record, momentum, Otto, etc.
Also, one of Michigan and Michigan State will lose again this weekend - which helps a lot.
The problem for the Big 10 is that they will be knocking themselves out - only one is likely to emerge onto the 1 line with Michigan's loss to Penn State last night and MSU's loss to OSU last weekend.
Winning out the regular season I think likely gives us a 1, even with a BE semis loss.

Would hate to end up the two seed in Indiana's Midwest bracket. Playing an Elite 8 game against them in their hometown will be murder...

Duke has UVA in Charlottesville, then Miami & VT in Cameron and finally the Tar Heels in the Dean Dome. Best case is two road losses to UVA and UNC but if Kelly comes back for the last two games they could run the table. Rooting hard for the Cavaliers tonight.

It's crazy talk, but if Duke loses tonight and against Miami, we have inside track to #1 in East. Just sayin'. Then you are looking at:
1a. Indiana Midwest 1b. Gonzaga West 1c. Miami South 1d. Hoyas/Kansas East

We will not be the one seed in the East, because we are the host school for the East.

I don't think we can be in the East because it's at Verizon.

We can't be in the East, Ranch. Regional Final is at Verizon.

It's way too early to contemplate this and I refuse to do so. But aren't we locked out of the East Regional regardless because it's at Verizon?

Isn't the east out of the question since it's at the Verizon Center?

Kansas will blast WVU. The Mounties are awful. Probably, but they looked pretty bad in Morgantown. That was definitely a prelude to the TCU game. But they have taken care of business lately. Lunardi has them as a 1 seed (at least based on what I saw at lunch), which is a joke.
