Hayes a isn't a bum and without skill; light hasn't come on all the way. There are flashes though.

Despite all the recent talk about Chukwu it will be very hard to pull him ut of New England. Prov and Uconn seem to be leading. What? This is not some townie kid. He's been in America for only two years. That's a dumb take. I'd understand Providence leading given Cooley's connections at Fairfield, but if we decide we want him, I don't see UCONN putting up much of a fight given their situation and the academic reputations of both schools. Frankly, with Cooley's connections, I'd just assume that UCONN is a non-player. Honestly, with the deemphasis on recruiting in this case (I guarantee there will not be a choose-a-hat on TV situation here), the emphasis on academics, the fact that he's at Fairfield Prep, and Georgetown's reputation with big men and with international/African big men in particular, I don't think there's a recruit in this class that we match up better with.

I know UConn has been on him for a while--both the Register and the Post highlighted Ollie's presence at a couple of Prep's games this year--but it may just be that the local papers were focused on the local coach, not that Chukwu himself thinks of UConn as a top destination.

Between Calhoun leaving, the team bottoming out, and the conference changes with UCONN stuck with a bunch of random schools, I don't see them as competition.

I don't think you're getting more than 1-2 good years out of any big man prospect that isn't undersized--we'll be lucky to get another Roy, where you get 2.5 good years. It's really just a matter of what grades they have the 1-2 good years. For me, it's enough if they're good on defense and rebounding (and not foul prone). The staff will take care of the offense. That player would stay four years to develop game. Coming from GU, that player could be a first-rounder. I think BigManU should be in a position to grab one of the best bigs each year. Create that pipeline: one leaves, the other is ready to step up; all the while the projects are developing. It needs to be branding. We need the bigs kids to want to be recruited by GU. Telep had this in his weekly write-up & this is exactly how I think BigManU should be perceived.. How did Turgeon ended up with this reputation? insider.espn.go.com/blog/ncbrecruitingon-the-trail/post/_/id/5587/notebook-rising-pg-likes-cardinalSeven-footer Trayvon Reed made a wise choice picking Maryland. Reed is a major prospect with a minor track record. The tools are there, but the production has been minimal. Mark Turgeon has a history of getting a lot out of his bigs. There will be a plan in place for Reed’s development and a process to take him from prospect to player.Getting the top rated players will always be hit or miss so it's in the programs best interest to find the diamonds in the rough and polish them up..

To me top 100 kids aren't diamonds or at least shouldn't be.

When has Turgeon ever gotten anything out of a big? De Andre Jordan went in the second round and has a career avg of 7ppg. Len? They couldn't even diagnose his stress fracture. Neither of them can Roy's or Greg's shoes.

Everybody in the ACC is a master at developing bigs - didn't you know that?!

Does Elbert Robinson giving Louisville a hard look make us give Chukwu more attention?
I'm officially signing up for the Chukwu bandwagon, I think if we focused on him we would have a really amazing shot to sign him.

I don't think so TC; keep in mind Elbert has already visited here, has been to a game and III has had an in-home. The only thing that gives me concern about L'ville is the bag$; there's nothing we can do about that. I'm sure we'll get one more official, which could seal the deal....or not. Elbert knows he's a perfect fit, how bad we want him, and how he'd join a heritage of bigs...hall of fame bigs. If that's not enough then so be it and we move on.
As for Chukwu, I heard he's Provy's to lose.

You should hear something very very soon from Chukwu is the word. PC is really pushing him very hard for a commitment, that's why he rushed up his St. Joe's visit. Cooley wants Chukwu to commit to help influence Abu and Terrell which makes sense.

They'd have a top 10 class with those three in the mix.

If we're out, I'm rooting hard for Providence to land him. Rim protectors are so valuable.

Basically from what I can understand reading between the lines is Providence is pushing him hard to make a commitment this week in hopes of helping them land Abu and Terrell. Providence and St. Joes are pretty much who he's deciding between if he decides this week but he might decide he doesn't want to commit yet and see whether the other schools who are monitoring him like Georgetown have to offer. I get the sense we're waiting on Elbert. If chukwu wants to wait his recruitment out and see if he can land a better offer than PC and we miss on elbert then I can see us making a strong push, but we might not get that luxury if PC is able to get him to pull the trigger now rather than wait.

I've heard PC for him the whole time just about. Remember Cooley came from Fairfield which I believe where he is playing HS ball. I think its all PC here always was.
