www.bxtimes.com/stories/2015/13/13-wings-state-preview-2015-03-27-bx_2015_13.htmlThe Wings Academy boys’ basketball team has moved past all of the joy that comes with basking in winning the school’s city title. Their hope is to take one final bow at after the state Federation tournament. “I’m greedy,” Wings coach Billy Turnage sad “I want it all. When the team returned to school on March 16 they were greeted with standing ovations and everyone, including themselves, were calling members of the team “champ.” “Everyone was just so proud of what we did,” Georgetown-bound center Jessie Govan said. “I walked in and everybody started applauding.” The veteran group wants to experience that again when it comes back from this weekend’s state Federation Class AA tournament in Albany. The Wings take on local squad and unbeaten NYSPHSAA champion Shenendehowa on Friday night on the semifinals. Christ the King and Long Island Lutheran battle in the other semifinal. “We want to continue to make history,” Turnage said “This has been a dream season for Wings Academy and we want to continue to build upon that.”

Causing some controversy up here. Wings is playing in the NYS Federation Tournament, which gathers the winners of the Public Schools, PSAL, Catholic Schools and Independent Schools tourneys for a "Final Four". The Catholic Schools are threatening not to play; New York high school rules allow only one additional post-season tournament, and the claim is that by also playing in the Dick's Nationals, Wings and one of the other PSAL schools are in violation. Gonna try to DVR the Wings game(s) to get a full look at Jessie. They will be on the local TimeWarner Sports channel, don't know if they can be accessed externally. www.saratogian.com/sports/20150326/shen-prepared-to-face-wings-academy-in-nysfssa-semifinalwww.dailygazette.com/news/2015/mar/27/0327_shenhoop/?print

Wings Academy knows they have a difficult assignment taking on the New York State public school champions Shenendehowa, who features a tall and physical team that handed defeats to MSG Varsity top-ranked tri-state teams Mount Vernon and Brentwood last weekend in Glens Falls. The Plainsmen have 6-foot-6 Brandon Fischer and 6-4, 245-pound Erik Kromer, who will play football at Brown University in the fall, anchoring the frontcourt. Shenedehowa has started five players this season who are 6-foot-3 or taller. Wings will have a few answers to combat that size. Georgetown commit Jessie Govan at 6-foot 11 will certainly give the Plainsmen fits inside the paint like he has done all year to PSAL opponents with an average of 24 points and 13 rebounds. Govan can be paired inside with burly 6-8 forward Jamar Brown to form an intimidating frontline. Sophomore forward Jose Perez has ben a factor inside and on the perimeter with his 6-foot-5 frame. Buie and Govan have been the top two scorers for Wings this season but the progress of the younger underclassmen like Kevin Saylor, Boubacar Kamissoko have made the PSAL champions even more dangerous to guard on the floor. “We have a lot of X-factors in our playoff run. Kevin Saylor, Jose Perez, Jamar Brown, Boubicar Kamissoko have been great,” Govan said. “They made big plays. Big momentum swinging plays in every game of the playoffs.” - See more at: www.msgvarsity.com/brooklyn-bronx/wings-wants-to-take-flight-in-federation-semifinals-1.1698085#sthash.O5Lur5Do.dpuf

Are we recruiting Boubicar? It would make us the runaway leader in most Boubicars in a program's history.

The best season for the Shenendehowa boys’ basketball program in 28 years came to a conclusion Saturday, yet that ending for the Plainsmen did not come without offering up a gritty fight against top-ranked Wings Academy. Shenendehowa delivered a superlative defensive showing, but could not overcome shooting 29.3 percent from the field in dropping a 44-35 Class AA Federation Tournament of Champions semifinal contest at UAlbany’s SEFCU Arena. The Plainsmen (25-1), which won the first state boys’ title at the school since 1987, hung tough throughout with Wings Academy (29-2). Shenendehowa’s zone defense limited 6-foot-10 center Jesse Govans (Georgetown University) to 0-for-9 shooting and only three points. What the Plainsmen could not do was stop senior guard Desure Buie (game-high 25 points). blog.timesunion.com/sidelines/2015/03/27/shenendehowa-falls-to-no-1-ranked-wings-academy-in-the-class-aa-federation-semifinals/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Did not look comfortable last night. We will see what the final brings tonight.

It’s just one game… Didn’t see last night but have seen him many many times he’ll be fine, but I guess it depends on what you mean by “Solid Contributor?” 7 and 5 would be a good number for him

zagsblog.com/articles/wings-academy-wins-new-york-federation-class-aa-dicks-nationals-up-next/Georgetown-bound senior forward Jessie Govan finished with a team-high 24 points for Wings, who defeated unbeaten Class AA public school champion Shenendehowa in a semifinal on Friday night and defending PSAL AA champion Cardozo on March 14 to win the city title. “We just dug down deep,” Govan told the Daily News. “We didn’t want to go home the last loser. www.hardwoodinsiders.com/2015/03/wings-wins-ny-state-title/Saturday night’s showdown pit New York City’s CHSAA City Champion in Christ the King against the PSAL City Champion Wings Academy. From the outset both teams showed why they were playing in the season finale as they both shot extremely well from the field. Alkins and Govan led the way for their respective teams finishing with 7 and 9 points as the Royals took a slight 23-19 lead into the second quarter. In the second quarter Christ the King continued its hot shooting while managing to slow down Wings by helping heavily on post entries to Govan. In addition to Alkins’ scoring, Christ the King saw a three point barrage from Jared Rivers and Jose Alvarado, who finished with 11 and 13 points at the half including five triples between the two of them. At the half Christ the King led 44-34. www.nydailynews.com/sports/high-school/wings-flies-ck-state-title-article-1.2165890
