On Monday, 6'9" Jessie Govan put on a how-to-clinic for big men as dominated offensively and defensively pulled down rebound like grapes off the vine and blocked or altered shots like a pro-tennis player. It's no wonder Georgetown is excited about having the senior in their program next season. Govan played in the Beacon Back-to-School Tournament against the PSAL defending NYC champs but due to his impact on both ends of the floor, had this been the boxing championship, the M.C. would have yelled "And the New!! athlonsports.com/iso-video-jessie-govan

I thought he was taller than 6'9". Are our commits shrinking again?!?! Dammit!

The difference here, regardless of actual height, is his strength. He's a man already.

Compares pretty favorably size-wise to Fab Melo who was able to take home BE DPOY despite being a big dumb oaf and the vastly more talented Emeka Okafor.

That Evaluation is pretty spot on. Jessie does only tend to take that jumper when he is unguarded up top and from the elbow and hits it at a good clip. The thing in watching him since he committed and his EYBL team is that he is basically triple teamed in the post all game and still gets buckets. That right hook is pretty much automatic that's why teams double so much.

The evaluation comports with my read of the workout video that was posted a few weeks ago in this thread.
Govan seems very skilled, but also seems to lack explosiveness.
Athletic and bouncy SF and PF is necessary to complement the more traditional post presence in Govan. Luckily, we may have that covered with Peak and Copeland. Along with a feathery jumper out to 15 feet, if he's a good passer, Jesse could be a perfect fit for the system.

Jessie Govan '15, Wings big 6'10' Georgetown bound center who has been sidelined the past couple of weeks due to an ankle injury was back in the lineup for the championship, having convinced Turnage to let him play in what was a highly anticipated matchup for the preseason. Govan asserted his will on the game right away as Wings guard Desure Buie '15 and Randy Corporan '15 made a concerted effort to dump the ball inside and let Govan post up and finish against the smaller Cardozo frontline. The big man scored the first 10 points of the game for Wings as he, along with underrated guard R.J. Frazier '15, were able to do damage in the paint and before you knew it Wings was taking an 18-8 lead early in the half. - See more at: arizona.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1699393#sthash.3fhDQMOt.dpufVideo Highlights ^

Too bad he is not still playing for my HS alma mater (St.Mary's). They have lost both Jesse and Danny Green's brother in the past year or two.
