Hopefully this is a wakeup call to the team in general, but also a wakeup call to coach about giving more minutes to DSR and Moses. Theres no use in playing a 6 man rotation if we are looking at a bottom half finish in the Big East. Might as well develop your bench. If you play DSR a lot, you likely won't win any games. The kid is in over his head, not good enough for this level of competition. Besides anyone who plays as half assed on the defensive end as he does, doesn't warrant taking the warmups off. Moses getting to play was the only positive from this crappy night.

The guy is just overmatched athletically at this level and if he isn't scoring, it's playing 4 on 5--but problem is--with this year's team depending on who is out there with him--it could be 1 or 2 on 5. Just have never seen what was attractive about his game? He doesn't defend, you make him go off the dribble and he has no mid range game other then a fadeaway jumper from FT line. Put a more athletic defender on him, he can't get a shot off. He's not explosive or big enough to finish at rim but has no mid range game or floater? So he's 1 dimensional and his defense is about as putrid as it gets. He's at least tried to stay engaged for a few seconds instead of none--but it's really bad watching a game on DVR and going over a play and seeing him stand straight up and giving up penetration, easy shots, forcing teammates to rotate and be out of position which leads to easy hoops or offensive rebounds, and get teammates in foul trouble too. So not a lot to like in my opinion but then again I've seen him do this for years, so it's frustrating to wonder why anyone hasn't made him change or seen him do that prior to bringing him in?

Rdf, I'm not sure I share your sentiment with regard to DSR. He may not be the best athlete, but he is a threat on offense and teams are forced to guard him. Without him, it feels like we are playing 2 against 5 on offense. Our problem isn't our defense, our problem is rebounding and scoring. DSR can contribute in at least one of those areas.

To take it back to Moses -- there is no reason for him not to start against St. John's. I think he earned it. Hopkins had his second straight terrible game and Moses showed he can at least be on the floor. If he starts and plays badly, then just bring Hopkins in off the bench.
If I am JT3 I open up my starting line-up completely and just play whoever has the best week of practice. Also, Domingo and Bowen need to play at this point. I am fine with a limited rotation when you are winning, but when you are not scoring and are putting up historic losses, there is no point. At this point, if EVERYONE in our starting line-up is not playing well, there is a good chance we will lose. Its time to give the bench, particularly Bowen, a chance to see what they can do in a game situation when it matters.

If one had focused on Moses, it would be easy to see that his defense is better than Hop at the 5. He did alter some shots because of his wide, strong body. However I do wonder where that Ewing-like blocking is that he was touted for. Where's the defensive rebounding? I just think he needs more time and experience and he'll make a difference.
Great point b52legend. At some point, you have to put talent in even if they don't know everything. Otto is a 1st round pick, maybe even Top 15. However, he is NOT a primary type of player. One of the GUARDS have to step up and be a star.

He was brought in to help create space and make teams respect him offensively. In 13 games, we've seen Hoyas struggle to score in 5-6 of them. Against good competition, he's brought nothing other then fact when he gets in game the guy he is defending or area he's defending (and using that word is a stretch considering level of effort he gives) is exploited immediately. Domingo/Bowen can't be worse--but problem is that someone in program is convinced DSR can be a point guard. That's going to get him minutes at a position he's even less suited to play at this level.

I believe he has a role as a spot up shooter on this team. Trouble is, he's not shooting well thus far this yr. At this pt in his career, I don't see much more than that from DSR, but that can be very valuable to a college team. Unfortunately, his defense has been quite poor, but I have hope that it will improve as he matures as a player.

what the heck have you seen from DSR that makes you think he's an effective player? Been saying this all year and noone agreed (except RDF). For everyone that said well he doesn't take enough shots to get in a rhythm...how many more shots did he need last night?

DSR has to hit his shots to be effective, but I think he can be if he does.
Right now, though, he's like pretty much everyone else offensively.

After last night's game III needs to reevaluate his use of Hopkins strictly at the 5 position. I think he has started Hopkins with the hope that he could I give him some offense down low b/c Nate was not giving much offense. The problem is Hopkins is not a 5 and does not finish well. He also does not have Henry's fearlessness in backdoor passing. There were many cuts to the basket that he could have made last night but was hesitant and could not pull the trigger.since you are not getting any scoring or assists from the 5 position then let Moses give you more muscle on defense and possible more offensive rebounding and maybe a few points on put backs in the beginning of the game. Let Hopkins come in to replace Nate at the 4 then switch over to 5 when Moses needs his first break and Nate comes back. The Duquene game put teams on notice that you could not play off DSR so the opposing guards are in his face and close out quick when ball is rotated to him so he is not scoring. Why not let Bowen take these initial minutes and tell him to drive to the basket like Jabril does and maybe draw some early fouls.
