Nice pass to Domingo today.
Moses is really looking to pass first and has a better understanding of the system then I imagined. Really seems to be learning from Lubick.
And he's a monster on the boards.
Go Moses!

He's not as skilled as Hopkins but I'm starting to think he's the better option to play more minutes than Hopkins. He won't take away shots from Otto, markel and Greg. They are the ones that should be taking most of the shots and Moses is strong and looks to rebound which is a problem with the starters.

Thus far, it still appears as if Nate will garner most of the mins as the backup to Hop. We like to bring in Jabril when Hop sits. It will be interesting to see if Moses mins either become steady or increase as the yr progresses.

I dont know if he should be getting more than 10-15 minutes a game, but I wish he would get 10-15 minutes a game.
His play this year could mean a lot next year if both he and hop are on the floor together down low giving nate some space.
Next year this team will go from being very lengthy but thin (with Whit and Otto) to very huge with Moses and Hopkins and Nate and maybe even Hayes or Bolden getting time

It will depend on the opposing matchups. Against a smallish 3 shooting team the better lineup is Trawick in for Hopkins. Against big front lines, need Moses minutes.

It's tough to tell what Moses would do overall with more time and more time with the first team.
Statistically, Moses hasn't really been better than Hopkins offensively (he's committed a ton of turnovers). Just watching him, he seems to be a better passer and know his spot in the offense better, and he certainly isn't as aggressive for his own shot, but I'm not sure he's a huge upgrade there.
Where he would be a giant upgrade is rebounding, if the statistics are any indication. Then again, we have to consider who he usually plays with and against -- he's often on the floor with no other rebounders and in garbage time (though probably the opponents' starters are usually still out there).
Defensively, Moses doesn't look better than Hopkins to me and the team certainly gives up more points when he's on the floor, but the latter could be because he's on the floor with DSR, Bowen and Domingo a lot.

To my eye, Moses has one elite skill - offensive rebounding. And on this team, currently ranked about 270th nationally in offensive rebounding, that skill is desperately needed. That is the single biggest reason the offense is struggling this year.
Almost everywhere else, I think Hopkins is the better player. Ayegba could eventually become a plus defender, but right now he is consistently out of position and leaving his feet.
Hopkins just needs to figure it out - it looks 90% mental to me.

Every single time we shoot a jumper on offense, Moses finds a man and bodies him up. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing him do that 10-15 minutes a game. Any opportunity we can get for an easy putback or a second chance for Otto to shoot his midrange jumper would be welcome to me.

My only complaint about Moses is that he seems to spend an unfortunate amount of time THINKING about where he should be and where others ought to be, a la Benimon and Nikita. He may have even more of a pass-first mentality than Lubick did last year. I really hope things start coming more intuitively to him because I think he's got the skills and the talent to do more than he's shown thus far.
Then again, I also don't have any major complaint about Hopkins' potential right now, so maybe I'm just going easy on our big men due to modest expectations.

When most of them get to the read & react stage the offense will flow much more smoothly.

Moses is the strongest player in college hoops feed him the ball and play him...he alters shots also...he's worthy of more minutes inside the paint...

I'd like to see Moses get more minutes. He needs minutes to get better. If we end up in a situation where Hopkins gets 25 and Moses gets 15, that might help Hop be more effective. And Moses can provide some much needed muscle off the bench. Could work out well all around.

Pitt game:
I think the only bright spot to this game was the extended minutes that Moses got. Our big weakness is offensive rebounding which limits us to one shot on offense. Moses is the only center on the team that is aggressive on the offensive glass. He also provides interior defense and won't get backed down/collapsed on defense
Good to see that JT3 and Pops recognize that we will need to develop Moses this year if we are going to do anything.
Even the clueless announcer could see that when Moses came in the game that their was a physicality and aggressiveness that isn't there when Hopkins is at center.

Too bad no one recognized the need to give Moses playing time before tonight. It is a shame there was not a preseason schedule for guys like Moses and Domingo and Bowen.

Moses needs to play at least 10-15 minutes a night. I'm a Hopkins fan, but Moses provides a physicality that nobody else on the current roster can provide. No reason for him not to play on this team.

Hopefully this is a wakeup call to the team in general, but also a wakeup call to coach about giving more minutes to DSR and Moses. Theres no use in playing a 6 man rotation if we are looking at a bottom half finish in the Big East. Might as well develop your bench.
