Anyone else shocked that we are a 10.5 point underdog?

Anyone else shocked that we are a 10.5 point underdog? not entirely. I think vegas figures that Indiana got their bad game out of the way yesterday so will be firing on all cylinders and think we gave everything we had in beating UCLA. Besides the fact it's an unranked team versus the #1 team in the nation. They're trying to lure in uneducated gamblers.

Anyone else shocked that we are a 10.5 point underdog? I really think we are pretty underrated, which is understandable. On paper, I don't think we appear as good as we actually are, especially since we lost many of our key players from last year. Last week, we got no votes for the top 25 in the AP poll. Regardless of tonight's outcome, I think we'll get votes this week, but without a great showing against Indiana, I wouldn't be shocked if many writers still leave us unranked because it's so early in the season.

The line is set to be even action on both sides. Indiana is #1 and every article from yesterday is about Shabazz Muhammad. I don't think it is far off from the predicted difference b/c it's college basketball and there's simply not that much volume from the common fan, but there's probably still a couple of points of hype in there.
Plus, Indiana is a lot better than UCLA. UCLA had nothing like Zeller -- and their three point shooting will give us trouble if we help. Oladipo is quicker than anyone on UCLA. I'm not saying we can't win or that the line isn't too big, but I think UCLA -5 was a lot more inaccurate yesterday than Indiana -10.

Agree with SF plus Indiana’s strength is in their returning players that are experienced. Ucla’s is not..

Yeah, UCLA played zero inside-out basketball yesterday and they were horrible shooting the 3. Those are dream matchups for us, and we will have plenty this season. Indiana is not one of them. We well have to play better than we did yesterday, and I really thought yesterday was as good as we've played since ND last year.

Does anyone know whether JTIII runs the 2-3 zone with Greg at the 2 on one side and Porter at the 3 on the opposite side? It would seem to be put a quick, lengthy athlete on both sides of the court. I'll look for it tonight. Would seem to give the defense good balance.
Stuff a zone on Zeller and mak'em chuck it.

Ranch, you've seen Hulls shoot, right? Be careful what you wish for.

I don't believe Hulls or Watford have ever had the pleasure of shooting over the extended reaches of Jabril, Greg, and Otto.
BVB - not saying this is a foolproof method, in fact it carries some risk. But, bottom line, I'd rather funnel their offense to Hulls/Watford on the perimeter with Markel/Jabril/Greg/Otto defending rather than allowing Zeller to repeatedly post up Hopkins/Nate/Otto on the blocks and allowing Oladaipo to work weakside. That could be a disaster for us.
But this is what makes Indiana so good. They have talent inside and out. There is a reason they are pre-season #1.
Maybe we can effectively limit both elements of their offense. But my hope is that we can execute more efficiently on offense by getting more high percentage inside buckets and catch Indiana on a cool outside shooting night when they are forced to take a lot of outside shots.

We won't, but I don't think a starting lineup shift is a bad idea. Otherwise we start with Lubick on Watford, which seems like an easy way to get Lubick in foul trouble early against a team he could actually log significant minutes at center against. My guess would be Lubick starts on Zeller and Hopkins on Watford.. Does that solve the problem or just move it to Hopkins? I'm concerned we're forced to match up with Watford because neither Lubick nor Hopkins is going to punish you enough on the offensive end to force you to match up with them (though Lubick had two back down left handed hooks last night that I could see him doing on Watford). Your switch makes more sense than the first proposed matchup, but my point stands that we really can't have either of those guys picking up cheap fouls guarding Watford on the perimeter when there's nobody except those two to guard Zeller.

It is pretty interesting to read their take on things. They seem very concerned about the height mismatches that our defense will create. They also seem pretty concerned about Starks, as well. Interestingly, despite all the Hopkins talk here, their thread doesn't talk about him at all.

Win the boards; shut down the 3, GU wins. GU IMHO is the better team even if Indiana wins.

"GU IMHO is the better team even if Indiana wins." That can't be a serious statement. Yeah, no Editedy, whiny Boeheim-like comments allowed round these parts!! Even if they are before the fact and not after. Let's just try to be the better team by winning the game.
