@josh_Stirn: Georgetown head coach John Thompson is at Bullis about to watch Westtown vs Benedictine. #GeorgiosPapagiannis Very good look by JT3.. future150.com/hs/basketball-news/recap-of-the-big-64-4109Georgios Papagiannis, 2015 C, Westtown: The big man was the best prospect regardless of class in the building all weekend. At 7-foot-1 he is a mammoth of a center. He moves well for a player of his size and has fantastic hands. He showed great footwork in the post and the ability to score it with either hand. Papagiannis must work to improve his jump shot a bit but his understanding of the pick-and-roll is very advanced. This is his first year state-side and it’s clear that he is one of the top players in the class of 2015 nationally. cityofbasketballlove.com/recruiting-profiles/georgios-papagiannis-c-2015/Scouting Report Papagiannis is a really skilled post player with great hands and feet in the low post. He showed the ability to finish with a variety of post moves on the block and shoot jump hooks with either hand. He runs the floor extremely well and excels in running the pick-and-roll. On the defensive end he was very intimidating, blocking tons of shots all day and grabbed almost every rebound in his direction. He will need to continue to work on getting stronger and improve his overall athleticism as he gets closer to college. Right now he has the ability to shoot out to about 15 feet, but he will need to continue to develop a more consistent jump shot. Papagiannis will be recruited at the highest level and should have a chance to be an NBA player one day. –September 26, 2013 hoopgroup.com/tournament-recap/fall-high-school-showcase-top-performers/Georgios Papagiannis | Westtown HS (P.A.) | 7-1 | 2015 Big G. Papa Gyro. Whatever your nickname for him is, it cannot fully describe how dominant the Greek native was. Another future Lotto guy, Papagiannis was outstanding at the Showcase, making highlight dunks and sky-high rebounds! The Junior has a lot of room for growth, and by the way he runs the floor, you know he will find a home in the NBA one day!

I wonder where the last 7+" footer high school senior who needed to continue to work on getting stronger and improve his overall athleticism as he got closer to college, had a great college career, was a NBA Draft first-rounder and is now having a NBA all-star season went to college? If recruiting was that logical, this would be an easy get. BTW, as trivia, JT3 may add that Pablo, the Greek Crown Prince went to GU. His roommate? His first cousin, Felipe, the Crown Prince of Spain. They were studying all the time.

Georgios Papagiannis
His coach at Westtown, Seth Berger, has shielded him from the media and declined to discuss the center’s recruitment himself, saying he's not involved in the process, but the one thing he repeatedly talks about is how Papagiannis is a “one and done” player.
That didn't look like hyperbole. Papagiannis was a force on both ends of the court on Friday and Saturday – a unique talent who just turned 16 this summer. You can tell he’s been coached the right way from an early age. He doesn’t have any bad habits a lot of American kids have and he knows who he is as a player. Papagiannis never lowers the ball below his waist, he establishes great post position with his body, and he’s naturally inclined to play with his back to the basket. He has thick calves and an already solid upper body.
Offensively, he’s mobile; getting up and down the court without a problem. He’ll even pull down rebounds and push the ball up court looking to make a play, although he remains discipline and in control. Its rare to see offense run through a post player even at the college level in this age, but Westtown was able to run a lot of stuff through their big man. He passes it from the post and has a modest turn and shoot jumper he likes to shoot over his left shoulder.
On the defense end, he’s able to block shots without taking himself out of the ball due to his height and coordination. He doesn’t have to jump very high to contest shots and he’s very smart about when to contest and when not to. He had six blocked shots on Saturday and only committed two fouls. After awhile, the opposing team stopped trying to shoot in the lane at all.
Even after just two viewings, its safe to say the Papagiannis is not only one of the best players in his class, but he is indeed a “one and done” type player. Its early, but he has all the talent needed to eventually be a top 5 pick in the NBA Draft.
Scoop
Papagiannis isn’t doing any interviews this season and his recruitment has been a mystery to say the least, as if often the case with prized propects from overseas. However, anything beyond that is pure speculation.

George Papagiannis, 2015 C, Westtown: Arguably the best long-term prospect seen at either event this weekend, Papagiannis has the type of skill set that doesn't come along often. He is absolutely massive at 7-foot-1, 280 pounds. Despite being so large, he runs the floor better than most would expect. He has good hands and fantastic footwork. When he catches the ball in the post it is hard to stop him from scoring and he understands when to pass out of a double team. He rebounds the ball exceptionally well and has shown some shot blocking ability too. Simply put he is the total package. future150.com/hs/basketball-news/recap-championship-day-at-bullis-holiday-classic-11463

I was thinking, in addition to a Dickerson/Commanche type recruit, wouldn't it be ideal to get a big man transfer after this year? While the transfer wouldn't be able to play until 2015 (like any recruit we get for that class), he would get a full year to learn the ropes from Hopkins, Josh Smith, etc. Otherwise, we'll enter 2015 with no experienced big men (I'm assuming it's up in the air whether Bradley Hayes is with the program at that point).

We need this desperately. Not necessarily a transfer, but someone who can contribute major minutes beginning day 1 in '15-'16.

What a disaster the 2012 class turned out to be, absolutely shameful..
It came all ways too.. They took a very early verbal from Bolden, took a late commit from Hayes and decided it was a good idea to have Domingo skip his Sr. year in HS..
Hayes & Bolden hurt the most because they were bigs you hoped would take the reins in 2014 & 2015.
I've said it before and I'll say it again the staff should be out beating the bushes for additional players in 2014.. There are more than likely going to be departures after the season is over..

Yeah, looks like we're only getting one starter from the 2012/2013 classes. Not great.

As long as he gets a bunch of run; I think Copeland gets a bunch of time as the three. We need a slasher badly.

Bacon… Bacon adjusting to new role Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy junior Dwayne Bacon is currently ranked as the No. 27 prospect in the 2015 Rivals150 and is listed as a small forward. Small forward isn't where Bacon sees his future, though. He's making the transition to playing with the ball in his hands more often. "I'm playing point guard," Bacon revealed. "That's where I want to play in college, so I'm starting to make the transition now." Sure enough, that's exactly where IMG Academy coach Yusef Fitgerald had Bacon playing in an opening-day game against Sagemont (Fla.). While the transition is still a work in progress, Bacon found teammates for easy baskets at times and chipped in 20 points himself. Bacon's performance earned him an offer from UCLA, which had an assistant coach in attendance. Prior to receiving the offer from the Bruins, Bacon said Florida State, Georgetown, Louisville and USC are recruiting him the hardest, and each school had an assistant coach there to see him as well. - See more at: recruitscoop.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1589224#sthash.nWmf9Tvg.dpuf

insider.espn.go.com/blog/ncbrecruiting/on-the-trail/post?id=8026Centers of attention Georgios Papagiannis (Westtown, Penn./Westtown School) 2015,C, 7-foot, 270 pounds Status: Doesn't have a list, but many schools are intrigued. Papagiannis came into this event with a considerable amount of hype. He has an enormous frame, a solid first jump, a soft paint touch, and his jump hook is a weapon. However, he is ponderous in transition, doesn't rebound out of his area (slow reactions) and is not a rim protector.
