Are we sure that's the same kind? Because 6'4" from Texas isn't really that similar to 6'1" from Camden, NJ. How many kids try to walk on every year? Is it usually only 1 kid or maybe 3-5? I'm with you in thinking that Joe is not the person that this thread was started about, but we will see. I'm with DFW in looking forward to an announcement from the staff for final confirmation. A lot of kids tell people that they have the intention of walking on each year. There's usually none, or one at most, that are offered the opportunity. I wouldn't assume the kid from Hartford has a standing offer to join the team at his leisure.

I'm excited for the 6'4" guard from Texas. The shorter kid from NJ? Not so much.

Walk-ons help strengthen the connection of the team to the student body and maintain a sliver of idealism in college athletics. I think they are good for the sport and good for the school. Some people seem to have enough time to post "this thread isn't interesting" comments, but I for one am very interested.

Hard to "strengthen the connection of the team to the student body" (which is a load of crap) when we don't even know who the student-athlete is.

You're part of the student body? Everything makes sense now.
And I don't understand how you expect to know if the school year hasn't started yet. People don't exactly go around broadcasting their business to make people like you happy.

That's the point - we don't know who this Sidd Finch-like walk-on from Texas is. So what's the point in discussing the merits of him joining the team?

I heard he's a ten-foot tall beast man, who showers in vodka, and feeds his baby shrimp scampi.

because he expected to join the team in the future. If it is going to help boost student morale by providing a link between regular students and the team ist doesnt matter how good he ends up being. Have a little patience.

Have a little patience. Serious question: did anyone else get their "morale" boosted by having someone walk on to the team at Georgetown? Maybe at other schools, but I thought one of the cool aspects of Georgetown was living in the same dorms & apartment complexes as the basketball players, eating at the same cafeteria, and sharing classes.

Serious question: did anyone else get their "morale" boosted by having someone walk on to the team at Georgetown? Only when a full student section at Cap Center was screaming in unison "Give Lang the Rock" at the end of a blow-out!

And it's not only about boosting morale it's about strengthening relationships. Happens at every school.

And I hear he's just one of your basic, run of the mill Caucasian kids. Goes by the name of Peter Parker.
