Seems like there should be a higher level of interest in this thread. I realize the "walk-on" tag keeps most people from considering an addition of any significance rotation-wise, but... If this is a 6'4 guard w/ some (any?) D-1 offers, couldn't this be someone who might actually see the court for a couple of minutes here and there? Our backcourt doesn't currently project anybody eating up Jason/Chris/Austin type minutes. Hopefully Markel takes that next step to upperclassman leader, Greg can defend against quicker 2's, Jabril fits in an expanded role, and DSR is as good as most people hope he can be. But I can envision some scenarios (negative ones, I guess) where a guy comes in like Benimon or Nikita and gets more time than anyone suspected. p.s. ... No, I can not make heads or tails of Lic's "go flock of Birdies" comment. I dunno. Maybe we're just talking run-of-the-mill walk-on. Sounds like more than that, though. Any more info? PM if necessary. Unless you have some vested interest in the kid, it's really not an interesting thread. Even if he's more than a run of the mill walk on, like you suggest, it's barely a blip on the radar. The odds of a walk on coming into a high major program and making any significant impact are minimal. The Wallace comparisons are nice and all, but that's the exception, not the rule. And unfortunately, as I'm sure you know, Benimon and Nikita were scholarship players. They just weren't very good.

kc sets a new record with his 972 consecutive negative post.
in other news, how many 6'4" guards are coming out of TX this year a) with D1 offers, no matter what level, b) uncommitted and c) in a position to get regular admission and pay at least one year? Put me in the camp that says one of the followers of the recruiting scene should be able to figure this mystery out

Put me in the camp that says one of the followers of the recruiting scene should be able to figure this mystery out I didn't see anybody state that the player had D1 offers, just that he was recruited by other D1 schools. A ton of kids get "recruited" by D1 schools, even high majors, every year. It doesn't mean that player actually had a chance of playing for that team, but they still may have sent him mail, had someone watch him at an AAU event etc. In short, being "recruited" by D1 schools does not mean nearly as much as some of the people in this thread are making it out to be. 100% chance that guys like Caprio, Beal, Izzo etc. were "recruited" by a lot of low and mid-major teams. I wouldn't expect this walk-on to have a much bigger effect on the Hoyas than any of those guys. And FWIW, all of those guys were under the radar of the major recruiting services so I expect this new guy may be as well. If you're interested in fishing around though, here's the list of uncommitted 2012 non-JUCOs from Texas that were good enough to make Scout.com's database (hint: it's a short list and our new walk on probably isn't on it): tinyurl.com/bt7ck5a

It's a kid named Joe Nardi, who played one year at Hartford on scholarship and was a regular student at Georgetown last year. He is from South Jersey. He is a friend of a friend, and as of yet, has not decided whether or not he will walk on.

Thanks for the info, heres a link to his Hartford profile: hartfordhawks.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1884Not quite 6'4" but like everyone has been saying, 99.9% of walk-ons make very little impact to the starting lineup. Here are team stats from the year he played, a very Freshman statline: hartfordhawks.com/custompages/stats/mbasketball/2010-11/teamcume.htm

I'll wait to hear it from the staff. Ten years ago there was a transfer from Carnegie Mellon named Vince Bartozzi who attended the awards banquet and was widely thought to be walking on in 2002-03. Didn't happen.

How many kids try to walk on every year? Is it usually only 1 kid or maybe 3-5? I'm with you in thinking that Joe is not the person that this thread was started about, but we will see. I'm with DFW in looking forward to an announcement from the staff for final confirmation.

again, I've only heard this from a friend of a friend, but I've been told that JT3 has expressed interest in having Joe walk on, so not sure if he needs to go through formal tryouts.

They also don't host an open tryout every year, I believe. Maybe every other year?
