UNC just offered per twitter reports A college strength program will get him right. Austin Nichols was 205 pounds for us last year at the the 4. He is at 230 with our strength and condition coach. He is projected top 15 and played well as a freshman last year.

He is projected top 15 and played well as a freshman last year. Probably true. But he doesn't look to me like the kind of kid that puts on weight (the good or the bad kind) easily. That's a big part of why I mentioned not seeing him as a one and done. It's much easier for some (insert Joshua Smith joke here) and much more difficult for others (insert Otto Porter joke here). That's not to say that wiry guys can't get it done being wiry (insert Otto Porter is gonna light it up this year joke or AI was the best short, skinny guy to ever play reference here) if they're wiry and strong. Just that most guys are better served by packing on some muscle to make the grind a bit more survivable (insert Alonzo Mourning can STILL, right this minute, kick the crap out of you and all of your friends reference here).

Skal has been putting on weight. He's much bigger and more defined than he was a year or two ago

Evan Daniels @evandaniels 6h John Thompson also in the building for Skal Labissiere. Has 13 at half. Really runs the floor well. Impressive skill level. Can score.

Here is the latest update
Gary Parrish @garyparrishcbs 1m Here's a new twist to Class of 2015 star Skal Labissiere's recruitment: "Overseas is an option," he told @cbssports. Column to come.

Of course, it is. If you can start making $1M plus....who is going to forego that?
'One and done's' may have officially died.

Well, you think there's enough cash for like 30 of those contracts each year? You think the kids will all just run for that option even though it means the type of cultural adjustment that most of them may not be prepared for? Wouldn't this supposed to be the trend with after Brandon Jennings?
Why panic at this stage? The kid heading to SMU wasn't going to be eligible from what I'e read. Of course he took the cash. Now let's see if it enhances his draft stock or, like Jennings, does he fall down the board if he doesn't shine the way people expect.

I actually do not think that one-and-done players are going anytime soon (unless the NBA changes its rules about the draft). While there are definitely guys that could go overseas, I still think that many, if not most, of the top draft picks are going to be from college.
The largest benefit of playing overseas is that you get instant money. I understand that this has huge appeal for most 17 year olds, but the appeal of making that money by going to a foreign country - especially one like China, which is so radically different from the United States - seems like it would only appeal to a certain type of kid - either somebody who REALLY doesn't want to go to school, or somebody who is really obsessed with the instant gratification of the money.
While a great overseas kid will get drafted, I would argue there are better opportunities to improve your draft stock in college. There is certainly more attention on college basketball, and I have to believe that professional teams probably get significantly more exposure to the top college players than players overseas. To the degree you can raise your stock more by staying domestic in college, the ultimate payout in an NBA contract might overwhelm the $1 million you make in a foreign country.
This does not even mention the cultural / traditional significance of playing on a college team, that you simply do not get overseas. How many kids grow up wanting to attend one of the top college teams? Probably nearly everybody at high major schools. How many grow up wanting to play in China? Probably not many. Then again, they do all probably grow up hoping to make millions...

If a guy doesn't want to go to college, he shouldn't. I'd rather watch four year players than one and dones.

This is what a poster who is involved on the Memphis AAU scene said-"In the wrong league, playing vs. grown men could hurt him.
Mudiay will dominate in China, Skal would have to go to the right league, or it's better to go to Memphis.
Unless it's strictly a money decision."
He was the one to get the ball rolling on the Lawson hire since he was the third party setting meetings up with neighboring SEC schools.

I get it. We're now calling Kentucky overseas? Syracuse players have thought that for years.

I don't think the overseas thing will become a trend but I think we will see it happen more often. I think for the elite (top 10) kids that could get high 6/ low 7 figures should always take the money. You go play against men and if you get exposed you are still likely to be a lottery pick (Jennings) because you have the built in excuse. If you get exposed in NCAA your stock plummets. There are numerous top 5 kids this happens to.
Now for these kids that are foreign to begin with (Skal/Mudiay) it's even more of a no brainier. You don't even have that family tie to keep you in America. You are also used to living in a foreign country. Plus if you go to China like Mudiay you could become a fan favorite in China so when you come back to NBA it could be great for endorsements/jersey sales etc.
