When schools are on equal footing its the little things that set them apart. Atop that list would be facilities and it helped tip the scales. There is not often one single reason why recruits dont pick a school. But lacking in the facilities almost always hurts our cause. You answered your own question with this post. Nice. At no point will we be on equal footing with Kentucky. There are at least ten better reasons I can come of with him choosing Kentucky. Facilities probably being on the lower end of his worries because he only plans on being in school for one year.

So whats the point of recruiting then if we can never be on equal footing with another school recruiting the same player? Might as well just quit then right? Maybe you would never consider them to be on equal footing, but the recruiting experience is subjective. Just because one school may offer more (basketball-wise) that doesn't necessarily mean that a player will prefer and pick that school. Not everyone is standing in line waiting from an offer from UK. People do still make decisions based on their personal preferences, be it family ties or type of system or coaching staff or whatever. And believe it or not some kids actually consider academics and location when deciding where they would like to go to college.

This one stings a bit. Agau seemed like a great fit at a position of need, and he seems like a kid with his head on straight. To go from clear leadership in his recruitment to losing him to a conference rival is not good, no two ways about it.
We've had plenty of recruiting victories lately, so it's not like this news is a program killer. However, would have been nice to get Agau into the fold early.

Were not on equal footing and we go after a different type of players/personalities. You keep answering yourself with your own statements honestly. Players do chose schools based on location/coaches which is why we stick mainly to the dc/bmore/va area. But again we are not on equal footing when it comes to a top 30 recruit who is also hearing from kentucky.

This just demonstrates that high school kids have no idea what they really want until they see it. We likely were the leaders up until Agau visited UL and then what he saw and heard and met made him realize that was the place for him. I do not find it surprising. Pitino is a legend, develops players and gets them into the NBA.
Pitino has more to offer recruits than JT3. To land these elite level recruits, JT3 must work twice as hard, have a home team advantage, develop a unique relationship or sell them on the system/development.
Regardless of what III does, the school's and community's commitment to the program is questioned every time facilities come into play. There is no doubt the biggest game in town in Louisville is Cardinals basketball, that passion helps sway HS kids.
That is why I respect the heck out of what III does for Georgetown basketball, his criticsjust don't get the full picture of college basketball.

You're just being silly if you really believe what you're saying, im sorry. People have their own opinions. Just because you think a recruiting battle with a school like UK is impossible to win doesn't make it true. There are plenty of rational recruits out there that make college decisions based on their preferences and would opt for a different school than UK, even if they have the full press from Callipari. That is exactly the point of recruiting, its not exact science. Case and point, NN was a GU lean at some late stages in his recruitment whether you choose to believe it or not. The location/coaches comment? Its different for every kid. Maybe a kid wants to stay close to home (Austin and Chris and Jason), maybe a kid wants to fly across the country to get a different experience (Domingo and Hollis), or maybe a kid just wants to get out of a small town and experience the nation's capitol (Monroe and Otto), maybe a kid just wants a top notch education (UK does not compare at all with us), or maybe a kid is just attracted to the way III does business. You never know. Its different for everyone, some kids are only looking at facilities and perks, some couldn't care less. Thats why we've been able to win recruiting battles against schools like Duke and Kansas and such lately. Again, its not an exact science and you're just trolling if you really believe that. Explain to me why Florida has two top ten recruits for next year then? How come they're not committed to UK? You're not a top 30 recruit being recruited by every school in the nation, so you can't speak for them. Even if you were one, you still wouldn't be able to speak for ALL of the top recruits. Every person isn't looking for the same thing in a college. And I dont know why you keep saying im answering my own questions in my posts because im not asking any questions.....

Whether kids choose Georgetown or not, it still doesn't mean that we are on equal footing with the likes of UK. From a recruit's perspective, they just won a National Championship, had 6+ guys get in to the league, (with several 1st round picks), they get TONS of perks from top to bottom, the list goes on. Does that mean every kid with a UK offer will go there, of course not, no, BUT, UK, is one of few schools where you can say they generally get the players they want, where as it's not unlikely for Georgetown to miss on our first target, and end up with our second or third choice at a certain position. Often times when we do get our first pick, it tends to be a lesser known but still equally skilled guy that might have been slightly under the radar.

Hoyas have several advantages and disadvantages for recruits relative to our peers:
Advantages: academics (for kids actually serious about it), Washington DC, pro arena (for kids who are into that), JTIII as a relatively young/black/likeable coach, legacy of winning and pro players, Big East
Disadvantages: academics (lots of kids don't like school), pro arena (for kids who prefer the campus atmosphere), JTIII as a compliant/no-nonsense coach, practice/housing facilities, Big East (for kids who prefer the ACC or other leagues or are afraid of instability)
Then there are year-to-year issues like playing time, team chemistry, Hawaii trips, etc.
I'm sure other things can be added to all of those lists. But the idea is to target the kids who can see the advantages for what they are and then to try and improve our facilities and the stability of our league (and we actually don't even have control over the Big East status, so facilities is the one disadvantage we have that I can think of where we actually have some control).

You really think FACILITIES is why we lost Nerlens Noel? Yes, for the most part. Why do you think he chose UK? I'd love to hear it. 5 starters drafted in the NBA draft, versus our two best players going undrafted.

Even though he wont have to worry about where he gets drafted much that is a possibility, but h also couldve paid no mind to it. Our below average facilities definitely played a factor though.

Speculation in Louisville is that he is homesick (Omaha NE). He was offered originally by Creighton, Drake, Iowa and Iowa State in the midwest. Wonder if Greg McDermott has called yet. . . .

We should really try to be in the mix if his injury history isn't concerning. We were hugely involved with his recruiting and we NEED bigs for next year. A mid-year transfer would be great - especially one coming from a reputable program.

He may be home sick also but the kid hasn't been able to get off the bench. I liked him coming out of high school but I don't think he fits what 3 wants. He comes across as an under sized 4. Reminds me of a poor man's Polytheses.

Brian Rosenthal @huskerextrabr 59m59 minutes ago Lincoln, NE Louisville transfer Akoy Agau will make unofficial visit to #Nebrasketball for game against Indiana on Wednesday, per source. When Marquette's players took the court for warmups on Sunday afternoon, they were followed out of the tunnel by 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward/center Akoy Agau, who announced on December 19 that he was transferring from Louisville. Agau, who was on an unofficial visit, watched warmups from the bench before taking a seat in the stands during the game. No matter where he transfers, Agau will be able to play at the conclusion of the first semester next season — just like Luke Fischer this season — and will officially be a junior. Should he join the Golden Eagles, he would add depth and a defensive presence to next year's frontcourt of Fischer, Steve Taylor Jr. and incoming freshmen Henry Ellenson and Matt Heldt. www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/286969061.html

Did anyone see him play while at Louisville? How did he look, overmatched? Going back to the high school highlight videos, he looks like someone who dominated in high school with his size and athleticism. Probably less "skilled" than Dickerson, but maybe fits the role that JTIII was looking for in him? Losing both Hopkins and Smith will hurt next year and it would be nice to get another big body to rebound, etc. Govan obviously fills that need, but Derrickson seems to be more of a perimeter type, and it is yet to be seen what Mourning and Hayes will provide.

He played 11 minutes this season, couldn’t get off the bench so no idea.. From HS vids he looked like a Blue Collar/Energy type of guy. Rebounding, defense, and effort plays would probably be his strengths. Think Derrickson probably sees his minutes at the 4 mostly unless he gets more explosive

I still say he is worth a look. Seems like he is heavily leaning elsewhere though.
