I was looking forward to the final BE appearances of PITT, CUSE and WVU this coming year at the booth. We have lost to all three teams the last two years, both home and away. We won’t see the ugly maze fans arriving in their pick- up trucks this year because the B12 bought them out of their BE commitment.
I got an email from Lee reed trying to get more dollars from their donation shortfall of basketball boosters. I think the problem was that season ticket sales were down last year and that made the booster bucks go down. I’ve been a season ticket holder for many years and the way the BE schedule turned out, we didn’t get our normal marquee BE games. Secondly, our home OOC schedule left a lot to be desired. When I first saw, it, I understand why III put it together that way with so many freshmen on the team.
I understand that they are negotiating with some big name teams that wear blue uniforms from the ACC, SEC and CUSA. There is no guarantee that we will get them into the booth this year, but if we do, we should take advantage of it with a big home crowd and financial success of a sellout. We didn’t have a public sale for the CUSE game two years ago, we still packed the booth and there was a lot less orange than usual this time. I would suggest that the DC fan base will come out in force for marquee games and give us a home crowd advantage.
I think with LVILLE coming off a final four appearance, CUSE and PITT making their last appearance and a blue team our two, that the ticket office could get creative and market some nice package for the HOYA faithful and limit the public sale to the opposition. It’s a win-win, a packed HOYA house and some additional revenue for the athletic department.

Here, here. Let's make Verizon Center the true home court advantage that we know and have seen it can be, for every game. This includes the students too. No excuses. Hoya Saxa.
P.S. Eager to see how our schedule turns out, and of course, if we can snag a last minute recruit to round out our freshman class next year.

I got an email from Lee reed trying to get more dollars from their donation shortfall of basketball boosters. I think the problem was that season ticket sales were down last year and that made the booster bucks go down. I'm not entirely sold on that. The Hoop Club numbers are almost at their FY12 target, and the decline in average attendance is largely a function of walk-up tickets. Fans vote with their wallets and the 2011-12 schedule lacked a quality non-confernece draw nor included the three traditionally largest road crowds, Syracuse, West Virginia and Pitt. Their departure from the schedule will not be easily filled with the incoming schools. The school is admittedly skittish about ignoring MBB's revenue potential but smaller revenue sources remain largely untapped. Had the MSF not become an institutional hot-potato, GU could be bringing in an extra $100,000 a year by now with combined football and lacrosse revenues. Had Georgetown better positioned its women's program in the Top 20, it would have done considerably better than drawing 307 for Senior Day. This is not a zero sum game--we can better support other teams without it being a negative to basketball. Yes, sell tickets, but fans shoudn't think that's the only thing left to do to be successful.

Off-topic but it would be wonderful if we scheduled George Mason since I will be going there next year most likely

Would love to see us play more area schools like Mason, UVA, GW on a home and away basis and less Savannah State, NJIT , Howartd, Towson and Tulanes.. I would also like us to play a couple good Ivy league schools, like Harvard, Cornell, and Penn on a home and away basis.
If we play on a home and awya basis, then we don 't have to pay them to come and play.

Had Georgetown better positioned its women's program in the Top 20, it would have done considerably better than drawing 307 for Senior Day. This was another scheduling issue. For years the women's team piggybacked with men's Saturday games at Verizon (men at 12, women at 3). It happened once this season on a Monday afternoon. This past season, the women would be home when the men were away and vice versa. As a result, many of us in DC who would've normally been at Senior Day at McD opted to see the men in Providence instead.

There is no question that there is big room for improvement in the attendance for GU games in the Verizon Center. Not only do we need better, more, and more consistent student support but also from alums and DC residents. We need updated marketing plans to shut down the house.

There is no rational basketball basis for scheduling such weak OOC teams at home and relatively strong OOC away games. If the Hoyas will be young and unproven and JTIII is nervous about their confidence, then the rational thing to do would be to schedule easier road games and tougher home games. If JTIII feels that the Hoyas will be strong, then there is no benefit to the team in playing weak teams at home as the games will be laughers and prove nothing to him.
So, the real reason our home OOC schedules have been weak is because Georgetown knows that they will sell 9000 tickets to those games no matter who the opponents are because of season ticket commitments. There is not a basketball reason other than the one or two games during exams or if we play our first game of the season at home (which is not always the case). This is really annoying but pretty common across the nation.

There is no rational basketball basis for scheduling such weak OOC teams at home and relatively strong OOC away games. Maybe not a basketball reason, but it's probably easier to schedule a strong OOC team if you're willing to play on their floor, right? Whereas a week OOC team is just happy to be playing a relatively-marquee opponent.

Whereas a week OOC team is just happy to be playing a relatively-marquee opponent. Before the season began last year, an analyst asserted that it was great that all of our home games were winnable and all of the games our young team could afford to lose would be on the road. At that time, of course, aiming for an NIT lock/NCAA bubble looked like a reasonable goal, and a strategy of .500+ with no bad losses was a reasonable way to reach that goal.
