www.sourcehoops.com/?s=Bradley%20Hayes"FABC ALLSTAR GAME Co-MVP: Bradley Hayes, Jacksonville Sandalwood – Hayes had a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. The 6’11 Hayes also added a steal and impressed with his ability to run the floor as well as knock down jumpers from fifteen feet. He has lost quite a bit of weight since viewed last summer and has greatly improved. Hayes basketball is certainly ahead of him."

I like what I see... if Upshaw doesn't show serious interest, I say we offer this kid and bring him to the hill top That being said, can anybody find a video of him doing anything but dunking? One would expect an ex guard to have some kind of jump shot or something to go along with the flush On that HUDL page the OP posted the link to, there’s 14 vids on there. Most of them are 5-10 min of game footage.. www.hudl.com/athlete/1206777/bradley-hayes

Let me preface this by saying I know next to nothing about this guy, I was too lazy to even watch the video earlier in the thread, and I have never seen a second of him playing in a game, but is this a last minute desperation kind of kid or is he someone who can make an impact early. I saw that he grew a bunch, but is he effective? Any info on how he would fit in w/ the Hoyas would be great.

Like many of JT3's recruits Bradley is young for his class, he won't turn 18 until August. Very fluid looking athlete...

Watched the videos. Doesn't look like he has any sort of game other than dunking close to the basket. Very very raw, no idea what the upside here is, doesn't exactly jump out at you.

I've watched almost every video of him on hudl.com in its entirety and I'd take that kid in a heartbeat. He's not as raw as I imagined offensively, plays with a motor, is very mobile and is a presence defensively.
Sign him up.

You sign this guy, he's way behind Lubick, Adams, Abraham, and Hopkins on the depth chart and probably doesn't see minutes till his Junior year - and that's if he improves.

Our starting center just graduated, Hopkins and Lubick are 4's and we truly have no idea what we have in Ayegba or Adams, one of whom has played a total of 26 minutes in his career and is coming back from a torn ACL and the other has played a total of 24 minutes in his career and missed the last 25 games of the season with an heart ailment. I don't see how anything in regards to the rotation could already be set in stone with so many questions at the 5 and it's obvious the staff feels the same way if they're going to have an in-home visit with this kid next week.

I saw that he grew a bunch, but is he effective? Any info on how he would fit in w/ the Hoyas would be great. He’s very fluid, runs the floor very well, aggressively dunks the ball if he has an opening or in traffic, has nice size and a solid frame to add more muscle as he matures. The weird thing is they said he was a guard but I never saw him handle on the perimeter or face up in about 30 min of game tape. Post moves appear really basic at this point. He mostly tries to turn of his left shoulder and shoot a baby hook. The few times I saw him turn off his right shoulder he shot the ball with his right hand which means he probably doesn’t have confidence in his left. Looked solid from the free throw line, was not akward good form etc. I didn’t see him shoot many jumpers, mostly turnarounds and he was probably 1-6. Part of that is due to the fact that he was starting his move too far from the basket and as a result he wasn’t getting himself close enough to the rim to be effective. There’s a big difference trying to shoot a hook from 5ft as opposed to 8-10. Defensively he moved well, he can get up so he did block a few and alter many, but didn’t show a quick second jump. He is a good athlete but laterally he probably has the ability to move quicker than he showed at times. He didn’t do a lot of out of area rebounding and considering how good of an athlete he is this should change given the right motivation and coaching. Overall he looks like a solid prospect who probably needs a year to really make an impact offensively. He needs to develop his footwork, add some post moves, and work on scoring with either hand. Again I didn’t see him face up or shoot even a 12-15 footer but fwiw on the Florida site some of the guys on there were saying he has great form and can knock down 12-15 footers with consistency. His upside is huge from what I’ve seen..

This is a quote from a guy on the Fla site who saw him play recently. Folks should read the link to their board, the poster has other info on Hayes that are positive... "Saw him play in a postseason Showcase game. Played against D-1 signees. Scored 18. had 14 bounds, 4 blocks! Only played half the game. Keep an eye on this kid!! He is gonna help somebody. Can bang inside & runs up the floor very well. In two yrs, he'll be a stud!!"Very interesting off the radar prospect..

Trial by fire.
If there was any semblance of certainty at the 5 going into the season, I'd think about redshirting him but if he can help immediately, then there would be no reason for it.

"Hayes’ emergence as the most dominant big man in the city this season has come in his first full season with the Saints. He missed his sophomore season due to a broken fibula and dislocated knee and played in just the final five games of the season a year ago due to academic reasons.“I’ve had to slow everything down in my head this year. It all seems to be going so fast, I’ve had to learn to keep my composure in games,” said Hayes, who weighs 245 pounds. “I’m trying to make up for all the time I missed the last two years.” Read more at Jacksonville.com: jacksonville.com/sports/high-schools/2012-02-06/story/sandalwoods-6-foot-11-hayes-hopes-send-saints-district-title#ixzz1rtG1cWvwI guess we know why he is under the radar now..

In the second game, Sandalwood's strong 1-2 punch of Luis Santiago and Bradley Hayes each posted a double-double and combined for 47 points and 24 rebounds to lead the Saints to the upset win. Santiago finished with four 3-pointers and was perfect in six tries from the free throw line to score a game-high 26 points. He also grabbed 12 rebounds. Hayes, a 6-11 senior center, was a dominant force in the middle. He finished with 21 points, including eight in the final eight minutes, to help Sandalwood preserve a double-digit lead throughout the final 12 minutes of the game. Hayes also had a dozen rebounds and blocked 12 shots. "Bradley has been real good lately. This is his first full season with us and not a lot of colleges know about him yet. He's a true 6-11. We measured him the other day again and he's almost seven-foot.Read more at Jacksonville.com: jacksonville.com/sports/high-schools/2012-01-27/story/wolfson-surprises-sandalwood-cruises-gateway-conference#ixzz1rtHkNegy

In the interview that yaboynyp linked to, they said he only really started playing basketball this year. He likely has lots of room to develop more. And he's young. I'm sure lic will be in here talking about growth plates soon enough.
6'11" athletes are rare. There is a reason why so many major programs are getting on him. We may get a better idea of where he's at development-wise in the next couple weeks as he plays better competition in AAU.

if you get him do you redshirt or trial by fire? Trial by fire.. Open competition brings out the best in a team I don't think you have to declare a non-medical redshirt before/during the season. You just need to not play the guy all year. So if Hayes came in and was dominated by Moses/Tyler/Hopkins to the point it was clear he should redshirt, you could redshirt him. One of the nice things about the front court depth is that he'll be facing quality competition in practice

I think the kid could hold his own if he works as hard as he says he does. May have a chip and be driven to get to the league in 3/4 years. I say press him and Upshaw.
