Even more importantly, Auburn doesn't compete with the Ivy League, et al. for professors, so it can pay them much less than what Georgetown does. Georgetown pays full profs on average almost $160,000; Auburn is more like $100,000 for full profs. Georgetown's endowment needs to stretch further to remain competitive.

So any ideas of who we could/should get as a replacement? We should be hiring soon.

I have ZERO confidence Reed will bring in a winner to replace her. Just time to move on or back 10 years, take your pick. Rinky wink U with II n control.

So GU was able to hire Williams-Flournoy when it was Rinky wink U with II n control, but will be unable to hire a winner because it is still Rinky wink U with II n control?

I have no idea who we might hire, or who the pool of candidates might even be. I'll leave that to someone who follows women's basketball more closely.
We probably caught a diamond in the rough with Coach Flo, and I'm not expecting someone with a spectacular resume to follow her, but we'll see how it goes.

Housing is the major disparity, but also probably the major expense for most professors.

DAN DID I MISS something in this link or just for general information. gohoyas Bill: people were looking for reasons TWF would go to Auburn. Pat Summit retiring is one of them (and akin to the effect Geno's retirement would have on the Big East).

The board needs to get in touch with reality. There is very little live fans support for what Teri has done at the Hilltop. The money isn't what a football school pays and the facilities limit her recruiting. If you are a top notch BB player in HS, chances are your facilties and gym are more modern than Georgetown's. Teri went to Penn State and coached at UGA, she knows what good facilties look like and what support spins off from a good football program.

I think the point of family is important, and given that there are thee types of fans on this board (alumnus, local fan, and a fan that may not be altogether familiar inside the gates), it's worth revisiting why this is important. As far back as there has been a full time coaching staff at Georgetown, ther is a certain bargain presented to coaches: you won't get the best facilities or not even the best salary, but you get to coach good students and you will get a supportive athletic department, win or lose, as long as you play by the rules. This is why a Pete Wilk or a Kevin Kelly has the ability to suffer through losing seasons that they would not get at other places. TWF got that bargain. Georgetown stayed with her when after four years her record was a meager 50-63. When times were better, well, she started looking. Obviously, Georgetown is not a lifetime commitment, but she did not handle this well. She knew what McD was like in 1993 when she was here as an assistant, she knew what it was like when she took the job, so trashing it in the press was counterproductive. She also knew that the IAC, when completed, would significantly upgrade her recruiting pitch and allow Georgetown to be a consistent top-tier women's program, similar to what Muffet McGraw is doing at ND. But to leave abruptly and with somewhat dismissive comments about her past position in her Auburn press conference can be taken the wrong way. Not a lot of chatter online about replacement candidates, which is not unusual for Georgetown. One former assistant is off the market, having signed on with two other GU ex-assistants at College of Charleston: www.live5news.com/story/17583952/melba-chambers-added-to-cofc-womens-basketball-staff

Let's not get carried away, here. Notre Dame's IAC looks like this. Their women's basketball team plays here ("The women's basketball office holds special significance, as part of the floor in its main reception area consists of the exact same court upon which Notre Dame won the 2001 NCAA championship at the Savvis Center in St. Louis"). The IAC may upgrade our physical plant from "embarrassing" to "spartan but functional," but facilities will never, ever be our selling point (Verizon possibly excluded due to the NBA factor).
