What Dan said.
Auburn has shown an outright commitment to improving the women's program (which 20 years ago was fantastic - 3 straight title game appearances) and contending in the SEC every year. We're lucky we've been in the mix near ND and UConn but we are never going to surpass them if things don't change. Coach Flo leaving doesn't help one bit.

Me neither. Like it or not, in womens college basketball this is a step-up job for her regardless of facilities. Other than facilities, what makes this a step-up job? The SEC is not a better womens basketball conference. Auburn hasn't been to the tourney in several years. The recruiting grounds aren't any better in Alabama. The fan support is a whopping 2,300 per game. The money is better. The SEC has traditionally been a comparable women's basketball conference, at a minimum. The athletic department as a whole is stronger, and that helps make an early impression on athletically inclined youngsters. That means two things: 1) The Auburn brand is better, athletically, and 2) There is more administrative support for athletics. The fan support is better, and that was for a bad team this year. If they were top 15, like we were at a point, they would have a lot more people in that building.

I can't believe that a rich prestigious university like Georgetown couldn't match the base salary of Auburn if money was her only concern.

If Georgetown paid its women's basketball coach $500k+, I'd seriously stop donating to the school. The men's program is a totally different story. Call it gender bias or whatever, but there is actually alumni/student interest and an economic incentive to pay the men's coach and not the women's coach. Unfortunate, but true.

yes a state school with the comparable resources of the SEC but i seriously doubt the endowment at Auburn is worth 1/2 of ours. I'd also be willing to guess we more than likely fund more teams than Auburn.

Auburn is a charter member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC), which is currently composed of 11 of the largest Southern public universities in the US and one private university, Vanderbilt. Among the other 10 peer public universities, only the University of Florida, the University of Georgia, and the University of Alabama are ranked ahead of Auburn in the 2011 edition of U.S. News & World Report.[29] This high ranking and reputation for academic quality is in spite of the fact that Auburn's $378.6 million endowment is currently the second smallest of the 12 SEC universities.[30] An attempt to increase the endowment by $500 million began in 2005 with the "It Begins at Auburn" campaign. As of August 2006, the campaign had raised $523 million, making it the largest campaign in university history.[31]

Just look at their new arena.

I'd also be willing to guess we more than likely fund more teams than Auburn. But whereas endowment, tuition, and current giving are Georgetown's only real revenue streams, Auburn also gets state money. Also, everything in Alabama is cheaper (including the cost of a scholarship!), which means the money all goes further. Funding more teams also means that each team has less money. We trot out poorly-funded, few-to-no scholarship teams like field hockey, softball, tennis, etc. It's hard for me to imagine any Auburn team not being at the scholarship max.
